How are the new races coming along?

The only reason people are playing humans in my game is for the stats; I had one player decide against DB simply because he wanted the extra skill (because he was really enthusiastic about them), and another is all over the tiefling.

My initial group was...

1.) Human Fighter
2.) Eladrin Wizard
3.) Tiefling Starlock
4.) Dragonborn Warlord
5.) Warforged Cleric

However, 3 & 4 are gone, and I don't know the replacement PCs yet. :erm:

My group consists of...
  • Human fighter
  • Human cleric
  • Dragonborn paladin
  • Half Elf warlock (fey pact)
  • Eladrin wizard
  • Elf rogue
I think my players are excited that they dropped the -2 Con off of the elves.

My friend started a new 4e campaign (so no worries about fitting the new races into the old setting). This is our group:

Tiefling Warlord (tactical) - me
Halfing Rogue (artful dodger) - my wife
Eladrin Warlock (infernal)
Eladrin Wizard
Dragonborn Fighter

So, 4/5ths of the group is using the new races, and both new classes are in play (and I love the warlord, BTW).

I don't think it's that much of a change -- I had both a half-dragon and a tiefling in my Eberron game not so long ago, and they worked fine. Honestly, they were a much easier fit than the gnome...

I've altered them, but they're used. Tiefling backround is changed back to the 2e/3e version, complete with randomized heritage bits, be they tails, horns, or what have you. Dragonborn are lizard folk, the females don't have breasts, and the males are all very vividly colorful. Eladrin are in, but I've changed the teleport to a...Look, I know someone is going to pounce on me for this, but, in essence, moving fast enough so that time seems to slow down for them for just that brief moment. A wizard did it. A RACE of wizards, at that. Same mechanical whathaveyou for combat, none of the "Wait, so I have to GOUGE OUT THE EYES of the Eladrin to prevent him from looting and raping everything in town? And this is for EVERY Eladrin?"

No pouncing here, I think that's actually pretty good! Doesn't matter what the cosmetic effect is, so long as the benefit is still there. Even then, changing the benefit isn't a bad idea.

Cosmetically that works too with Encounter powers - like they have to recharge their batteries or take a breather or something.

I'd like to second the admiration for ProfessorCirno's eldarin power change. Feels like a better fit to the mundanity level of the other races, which I think eladrin need to balance out their appearance.
