How are the new races coming along?

I think we've already seen about as many eladrin as we have had, say, halflings over the course of third edition. In our group, tieflings seem to be the least popular of the new races.

My party currently consists of:

1- An alcoholic Human Male Paladin of Avandra
2- A Human Male Cleric of Thor, er I mean, Kord, God of Thunder (WWTD?)
3- An angsty teen Female Dragonborn Infernal Warlock
4- An underage Female Dwarf Fey Warlock
5- A Male Doppleganger Wizard, pretending to be an effete Eladrin noble (the fastidiousness ritual has seen much use here)

Everybody is really happy about their characters and we are having a lot of fun.

Eladrin are in, but I've changed the teleport to a...Look, I know someone is going to pounce on me for this, but, in essence, moving fast enough so that time seems to slow down for them for just that brief moment.

Cirno, we usually don´t agree in many things, but this is a very good idea. Kudos.

If our group is any indication the new has been well received.

1- A righteous Human Cleric of Erathis
2- A brutal Half-Elf Inspiring Warlord
3- A sarcastic Tiefling Starlock
4- A fire breathing Dragonborn Fighter (Trogdor anyone?)
5- A troubled Eladrin Rogue

I smell a poll.... :D

I would swear that a month or so ago there was a poll as to "which races have you seen in your group's party" - or something like that

I can't find the poll but if I recall correctly (and am not making the whole thing up as a figment of my imagination) then it showed that the new races were basically as played as the others... the weakest link was halflings, while teiflings were at the top...

I must admit I'm surprised; other places I visit would pounce on the whole "moving so fast time seems to slow down" bit with calls of "anime crap" or "weeaboo" or what have you :p

As for a poll, I think it would be easiest just to give three choices. "I enjoy using the races," "I use the races while homebrewing their fluff," and "I do not enjoy using the races." Clear, simple, easy to read, straight to the point.

Let's see ...

An eladrin rogue

A dragonborn fighter

A tiefling warlord

A dwarf cleric

A half-elf ranger/paladin

The new races are popular in the group, and the mechanics opens up interesting situations. So for our group, they are a success.

I've altered them, but they're used. Tiefling backround is changed back to the 2e/3e version, complete with randomized heritage bits, be they tails, horns, or what have you. Dragonborn are lizard folk, the females don't have breasts, and the males are all very vividly colorful. Eladrin are in, but I've changed the teleport to a...Look, I know someone is going to pounce on me for this, but, in essence, moving fast enough so that time seems to slow down for them for just that brief moment. A wizard did it. A RACE of wizards, at that. Same mechanical whathaveyou for combat, none of the "Wait, so I have to GOUGE OUT THE EYES of the Eladrin to prevent him from looting and raping everything in town? And this is for EVERY Eladrin?"

Umm, you do realize that teleport is line of sight only right (PHB 286). Your teleport is actually more powerful, since I could fey step, open a door really fast and step through. Or, fey step around corners, etc. Teleport doesn't allow you to do that.

Otherwise, cool idea.

I think a Tiefling/Dragonborn party could be interesting if the Dragonborn all take the fire breath. Suddenly friendly-fire is less likely. Could open up some tactical options.
