I'm not sure I care for how "4E" gets separated from "Everything Else" when it comes to versions, but that's a moot point.

To answer your question, I probably won't play 5E and it has nothing at all to do with 4E. My gaming group and I just started a brand-new 3.5E game that we are really stoked about.

I chose Lemon Curry. I prefer a previous edition and will wait and see However, I would not say that it needs innovation in the sense of creating entirely new mechanics. Everything that would make my perfect D&D can already be found among the core books, optional books, or 3e third party supplements for the various editions of D&D and d20Modern or in Star Wars Saga.

I'm cautiously pessimistic. It's a tall order to get all the conflicting agendas to reconcile, and I don't envy them the task.

I'll certainly see what the final version looks like, and I'm sure I'll play it at least some. And if it doesn't measure up to the awesome of 4e, I'll stick with that edition.

PS

* I prefer non-4e and will have to wait and see.

This, of course, is not an option. I do not understand why the qualifiers "Needs backwards compatability" and "Needs rules innovations" are at all necessary or included.

Neither of these things factor into the decision. When 5e comes out, I will wait and see...and then I will decide if I will get it or not...there is no "likely will switch or not" at this stage.

I also feel "switch" is somewhat misleading for the poll as well. There is nothing stopping you or anyone saying that if you choose to play some/explore 5e, you must therefore "switch" or "give up" your other enjoyed editions of play.

I like a lot of what I see, but that was true for 4th, which is not exactly my favorite.

Innovation and that it's backwards compatible are de facto things I'm not looking for. Wide appeal, system stability and good use of existing elements are.

In the end there's insufficient data for me to make any judgement on the new edition. I intent to take part in the public playtest and after that, see.

I didn't vote. I prefer Basic or 1e and I didn't want to get lumped in with 3e/Pathfinder. I doubt very much I'll like 5e, but I'll wait and see. My feeling is it's going to be a 3e/4e hybrid with a bit of old school flavor thrown in. If so, I'll pass.

I'm interested in what we've seen so far, having said that, it's given me a hankering to start a Basic/1st Ed campaign with bits from other editions thrown in.

I just moved and have packed all my D&D books away (temporarily) except for the Basic Rulebook (81, Moldvay), 1st Ed PHB, 2nd Ed PHB, 3rd Ed PHB and the 4th Ed Essentials Heroes of books and Rules Compendium, gonna see what i can come up with.
