How big is your party?

How large is the PC party in the game(s) you are in?

On an ideal day, 4-6 players (plus DM).

However, I don't usually get ideal days, and usually end up with 8-14 players. Most folk in the games-club couldn't be bothered running their own game, and just insinuate themselves into mine :\

One group of four and one group of five, soon to combine into a group of nine if we can make it work. If not, I may have to seperate them again.

Our last part was pretty large.

8 PCs
2 npc
4 chorts
1 skeleton (from wizard pc)
3 npc cohorts (1 pc took feat twice)
and 1 animal companion.

This reminds me of something that happened about a year and a half ago:

I played in a game of EIGHTEEN PLAYERS and ONE DM!!!

It was long and boring. I left after four hours. Not much happened at all.

Here's the reason why this happened:

The DM had been running the campaign for about six months or so. During that time, players came and went. On that day, everybody, including people who hadn't played in a couple months, who had made a character for that campaign showed up and wanted to play.

Although it was somewhat boring, it was kinda funny watching the DM pull his hair out. :D

-----

My ideal group is 4 to 6 players. I'll DM for a group of 7 players, but that's the limit.

5 seems to be the magic number.

At full attendence, we have 8 players and a DM.

As most of the other people here with large groups have said, full attendence is NOT the norm, so we usually end up with 5-7 players on average.

But boy is it fun when everyone shows up... :)

We are four players and a DM, and in the past most of the players have run multiple PCs, but at the urging of the DM (who would like, for once, not to have to adjust up all the encounters), we agreed to play only one PC each in our new campaign. So far, it's been brilliant--investing ourselves in one character has renewed a lot of our enthusiasm and creativity.

In Friday Night Low Level Game (of which I'm Primary DM):
1 Yannish (basic half-giant) Barbarian
1 Bamboo Spirit Folk Wu Jen/Shaman
1 Human Druid (DM alternate)
1 Human Paladin
1 Human Fighter
1 Halfling Rogue (named Havebag Willoot)
1 Human Rogue
1 Human Ninja (Simple modified Rogue)
1 Fey One (half-fey creature) Sorcerer

Yet to play in the game:
1 Halfling Rogue (and probably won't)
1 Dwarven Fighter
1 Human Transmuter or Barbarian (don't know which I want to play yet)

That would be...a party of 9, maybe 10.

In Saturday's Sunless Citadel Game:
1 Elven Rogue/Ranger (Our Archer)
1 Half-Elven Ranger/Fighter (War Hammer Fighter/Party Leader)
1 Half-Elven Rogue (another archer)
1 Human Barbarian (Meat Shield)
1 Half-Orc Barbarian (Meat Shield)
1 Hobgoblin Fighter (Enemy Infiltration Unit)

Only 6...

In Sunday's High Level Game (Chr's run about 2 1/2 years, I run alone)
1 Elven Warrioress (too many classes, Party Meat Shield)
1 Human Power Fighter (Strong, High AC, Good Attacks, Party Strong Arm)
1 Elven Cleric (Could fight, but likes Walking Medic)
1 Human Fighter Sorcereress (Beginner player who still hasn't gotten a good grasp on the system yet, due to sporadic playing).
1 Human/Reincarnated Elf Mobile Warrior (Min/maxed movement rates, 1 vs 1 expert fighter)

Campaign cut down to 4-5 players, instead of the 9 it was before.

So that about covers all of our games that are currently running at the moment in our group.

One game has 3 characters in the party, one of whose player moved away so the other two of us are taking turns running it till he gets back (Which was supposed to be months ago...hopefully he's not dead or anything.).

The other has seven players, usually at least one or two are gone (one of them is the perhaps comatose or enfugued guy from the other game). We just came of a two year real-time period where the party was spread over half the continent (there was a huge war going on), either in various smaller groupings or off alone, but never all in one place. The game's actually a lot more interesting that way, if the player's don't mind waiting for their turn or playing NPCs.

Right now six of the characters are off together, while one is on her own mission. The party runs a town, so there are quite a few low level fighters, some very technically oriented experts, and a couple mages and clerics working for them. There are also two former PCs hanging around that take care of things while the party's away and can be called on when necessary.
