How breakable the races...

For an upcoming campaign, I have a player that wanted to play a Deva. While I didn't mind their racial ability, flavor, etc what I didn't have room for was a distinct (purple) race that could be picked out of a crowd (visually) and pointed at as someone with these types of 'abilities'. It just doesn't work with my homebrew.

So what I offered was - play a Deva, statistically without change - but skinned as a human.

So now, these abilities are something special to him - aka he may be the only one like this - as opposed to an entire race where this is their "thing". His memories will not be specifically of past lives, but will draw on those experiences and in time lead to the knowledge of where they came from - I have a story worked up for this that will stray slightly from the actual Deva writeup.

That is exactly what I meant in my first sentence of this thread ;-) -- I allow very liberal skinning... I have a subrace that can be built using deva, dragonborn - longtooth shifters or human, and the parent race is usually very Eladrin like (but without fey step - more likely halflings second chance or deva memories.).
