How do I build this?

Hey folks. I'm just hopping in to get the expert opinions of the good ENWorld posters for a character build. This is the character background I've written up (excuse the bad writing and the long-windedness/irrelevant information):

Zulu was born the twelfth son of a desert warchief, the leader of the nomadic tribe. They were raiders. It was a way of life for the region. Each tribe took and was taken from. Attacked and was attacked. Killed and was killed.

Zulu's father, however, broke the balance. He was an exceptionally gifted tactician, and during an unexpected summer campaign, he lead his small horde to victory against its strongest rivals, and those clans were integrated into his own.

In a handful of years, Zulu's father was the brutal, uncivilized king of the desert, the lord of a massive horde of warrior tribesmen.

Zulu and his brothers and sisters were born, two or three to each of the warchief's wives.

Eventually, the warchief was approached by the kings of city-states, and each offered more than the last to wage war against his enemies. The warchief and his horde grew rich, trading the traditional nomadic life for the walls of the cities.

Half of his life having been spent in the desert, Zulu now found himself cast into a sea of palaces and temples, alien cultures and alien religions now forced upon him.

His father, his siblings, and the horde grew decadent and docile. The mere threat of the horde was enough to bring an enemy to its knees, so its warrior culture began to decay. In time, those of the horde grew increasingly corrupt, their very souls growing black and twisted.

Zulu's mother, however, would not allow herself or her offspring (Zulu alone) to do the same. She sent Zulu to formally study war, while also keeping elders of the tribe in her household to teach him the old ways. This continued for several years.

During this time, Zulu developed his own beliefs about the world. He rejected the violence of his ancestors. In shadowed corners in the dead of night, amphorae of wine shared between them, Zulu and others discussed such illustrious concepts as "freedom" and "democracy," drawing up ambitious philosophic codes, none of them ever going far.

Eventually, Zulu's mother confronted the warchief about the shameful state of the horde. In response the warchief, having years ago grown bored of this particular wife, had her beheaded and strung up as an example to any enemy who would seek to use his family against him.

When Zulu learned of this, his immediate reaction was to nod his head and continue about his day. His thoughts, however, turned to cold, calculated revenge.

A month later, Zulu fled from the city, leaving behind in the warchief's bedchamber a sack full of the heads of every siblings whom he believed had grown corrupt and evil.

It was a message that only the warchief understood. In times long past, when a warrior sought to depose the tribal chief, the warrior would present the chief with the head of the chief's father, brother, or son. It was a declaration of intent.

For now, Zulu has struck out into the world to try to bring to life the philosophies he's mulled over for years. One such tenant is the eradication of corruption and evil, and the refusal to let any such thing take hold in the lands of mortal men.

One day he will return to the warchief and take back the honor of the Ancestors. Until then, high adventure awaits.

I'd like to go with a tactical Warlord, but I'm open to suggestions.

Basically: How would you build this character?

Thanks in advance.

Do you have a race specified for your tribe? I'm assuming human but I guess it could be any humanoid race ...

tactical warlord
inspiring warlord
paladin (of kord, bahamut, or erathis)
fighter
ranger (two weapon, but maybe ranged)

any of those would/could work in my mind

given his desert heritage, stick with minimal items/armor. although given his experience/education with more civilized lands, you could easily explain any proficiency and access to higher level armors and stuff.

Human seems like an appropriate race for Zulu's father and Zulu. It would explain his father's ambition in revolutionizing how the Tribe fought, and his corruptibility when a lifestyle of decadence and greed presented itself.

I would make Zulu as a Lawful good character. He stands for order and justice (bordering on vengeance). He will do anything to bring the corrupted society (clan) to justice. He should be a warlord but take multi-class feats as a paladin. For a deity I would choose Moradin, since Zulu is demonstrating loyalty to his clan (in trying to end the corruption and avenge his mother) and trying to leave a lasting mark on the world (by restoring his clan to its former glory). Moradin is also a warrior god. Kord could also be a possible choice since he enourages the use of strength, but not for wanton destruction, and demands that his followers oppose cowardice such as that of Zulu's father.

His feat at level one is Soldier of the faith because he is training himself as a holy warrior. A good human bonus feat is action surge, because when Zulu calls upon his tribal instincts or vengeful fury he is difficult to stop. You could also consider improved initiative to represent tactical skills inherited from his father.

Your skills should be Athletics and Endurance (to represent his harsh tribal upbringing). Also get knowledge history from the paladin class list since you have the multiclass feat, to represent the stories Zulu heard from the tribe's elders while he grew up. As your human bonus feat take diplomacy, from the paladin class list, since Zulu strives to end the bloody methods that his tribe employs to end confrontation. Zulu does not have streetwise because he grew up mostly in the wild, and when he moved to the city it was a decadent lifestyle spent mostly indoors.

You are going to be a tactical warlord since you inherited your keen tactical mind from your father. Your actions in battle are very similar to his, and this scares you, for you see a bit of the terrible beast within yourself. You try to conduct battles less bloodily, and take prisinors, when the enemy is being manipulated by corruption. You show no mercy when the enemy is truly guilty and deserves retribution.

As you level you will take paladin power swap feats. Focus on powers tha are associated with revenge and judgement such as radiant smite and on pain of death.

Obviously Zulu is going to deal with moral dilemma's, especially as a paladin. When he defeats a truly corrupt figure in combat does he finish them himself, or turn them over to the law, even if he risks them escaping judgment by a corrupt system. This character has a compelling background and looks fun to play.
