How do I go about Sundering a BE Weapon?

WD40

First Post
Say a Fighter has a Brilliant Energy Longsword... Can an opponent sunder it with a 'Nonorganic' weapon, such as a regular or magical longsword?

Hows about sunder attempts with Organinc matter, quaterstaffs or clubs?

I'm assuming, that is a sunder attempt is done, it hits the BE Weapons Hilt/Grip/Haft... but then, I beg the question: can a Brilliant energy Weapon be used to sunder other weapons?

Brilliant Energy doesn't care about whether an object is organic or not. BE ignores non-living matter.

So, you can't sunder a BE weapon with a normal weapon, and vice-versa. But you can sunder it with the natural weapons of a living creature. So a giant's wooden club would pass right through it (unless it was made of a material like livewood from Eberron), but it could use its slam attack to sunder it.

I disagree. The BE propery only changes the "significant portion" (i.e. the blade of a sword or the head of a mace) to energy. There is still a notable portion of the weapon that is made of a normal material, like the handle. Therefor, I think a BE weapon could still be sundered as normal.

With a regular sunder action. The sunder rules never call out what part of the weapon is broken during a sunder. The weapon is either broken or not broken. A sunder could result in a broken handle, shaft, blade, or any other part of a weapon. In the case of a BE weapon, the sundered part just can't be the "significant portion" of the weapon (which is the energy part).

I would check with your DM, as some DMs feel that sunder strongly implies that the significant portion of the weapon is the one that is being broken. In that case, monks can still sunder brilliant energy weapons.
