How do I post a poll?

My obligatory dumb question.

I'd like to post a poll or two, but when I look at the poll section on the "Post New Thread" page, I see that the maximum number of options/choices is set to zero -- I take this to mean I can't post a poll. Checking "Yes! Post a poll" seems to have no effect when I preview my post. I'd like to avoid posting something I think is a poll which in fact is just a dead post.

Am I missing something obvious? Do I need to be a community supporter?

A maximum number of zero means that there is no maximum number, I believe.
