How do Vampires travel???

Don't forget Van Richten's Guide to the Created (golems) and Van Richten's Guide to the Vistani (although that one is more Ravenloft-specific, unless you're looking for gypsy info).

If it was never buried, it'd die on the next morning, when the sun came up.

If the vampire doesn't reach his coffin in time (or if the coffin is destroyed), he is destroyed for good. Lots of vampires keep more than one coffin ready (notice how Dracula hauled several crates of dirt from Castle Dracula to London).
So if a vampire kills someone with its energy drain it'll need to get a coffin for that someone in order to have a new spawn?
Also, in the 'Slaying a vampire' section it says nothing about destroying the vampires coffin as a way to slay it, I just assumed it will return to the same place and heal whether there's a coffin there or not.

The only way a Vampire should travel is in an elaborate carriage, drawn by four black horses, driven by some strange and deformed man. Anyone who sees the vampire in this carriage will be under the opinion he is some unusual but intriguing nobleman, unless it is a vilager who lives near his manor, in which case the noble will be called the devil himself. Obviously enough, this carriage is mostly seen at night, and it shielded from the sun by a number of thick curtains.

This representation of how vampires get around is pretty much the classic depiction, and while I never read Bram Stoker's Dracula, this is the kind of ride a vampire used in the very first vampire movie, ever, F. W. Murnau's Nosferatu, and has been replicated many times elsewhere.

I really don't see much need for anything more elaborate, or even moving the coffin around at all.

Thanks a lot everybody!
Very, very interesting answers (I have to read Dracula yet and I did find my copy of the Van Richten's Guide).

The thrall-carrying-him-around idea is great, but no so when the path the vampire has to take is filled with dangerous monsters (whom the vampire can beat during the night but has no chance during the day).
I believe I will go with the carriage road and maybe some golems to defend him during the day.
Thanks a lot!

The supplement to read is Bram Stoker's novel "Dracula." Not any movies, sequels or reimaginings. How a vampire travels takes up a good portion of the book, and the log of the Demeter is one of the best horror tales in the English language, for my money.

You could not be more right, Mr. Dustyboots. :D

[nitpick]You are half correct there. Vampires can create Vampire Spawn through thier Energy Drain, or they can create Vampires (5HD or better) and/or Vampire Spawn (4HD or less) through thier Con (blood) Drain.[/nitpick]

Quite correct.

So, a bit of non-vampire-specific advice. Always glance at the second page of the printout to make sure you don't miss something important :\

Artery-ble puns a regular part of your repertoire, Raven C? It's a grave fault to stake your forum rep on using them; they only Stoker the fires of other guys and ghouls to use them also, and drac down the thread. See what I mean?
