How do you Calculate Eberron Action Points?

I'm going to be playing in an Eberron game but don't have the ECS. How do you calculate the action points for a 7th level character? And what can you use them for if you have not taken any of the feats that require action points to activate?

Thanks

I don't remember how do you calculate them but generally you can use them to boost any d20 roll with an additional 1d6. For example, Skill checks, Ability checks, Attack rolls, Save rolls etc.

I belive Eberron action points are the same as the action points found in the SRD.

So your 8th level PC should start with 5 + (1/2 level) = 9 action points.

5 + 1/2 your level (round down)

Each new level you lose any you haven't used from the previous level and get a new total as calculated above. In play, I've never managed to use all my points before leveling.

When using, roll 1d6 and add the result to any d20 roll. You must do this before the DM tells you the result of the roll, so you'll sometimes have to guess if you need to use it or not.

Whn you reach 8th level, you'll be able to roll 2d6 and choose the better of the two to add to your d20 roll. (Don't add them together.)

Do not go by the action point system in the SRD/Unearthed Arcana. That is an expanded system, allowing more uses than Eberron allows.

As a houserule I like having action points refresh each day. In particular I like using half the character level rounded down plus the characters charisma modifier.

It makes for something actually reliable and fits into the normal system much better. It also makes raging luck a little less godly in such a setting.

And at the same time less uses. ;)

UA does not allow autostabalizing (which ECS does).
