How do you carry a glaive?

How do you carry a glaive or other polearm? Is there some sort of sheathe/carrier or do you have to hold it in your hands all the time? What about when mounted?

Low Fantasy/Historical: You walk around with it and carry it carefully.

High Fantasy: You wear it on your back and whip it out chopping off an orc's head at the same time.

edit: I think mounted there was a kind of mini-pocket for the butt of the polearm to sit in. I'd use the word "stirrup" but I don't think I can spell it properly.

In your hands or resting over your shoulder. I suppose you could put a leather covering over the blade, but the handle is still going to need to be carried, because of the length.

For size M creatures I would say the short answer is in the hands. On horseback there may be a way attach the weapon to the saddle or harness but such an arrangement would not be as handy as a sheath per se. Size L creatures such as Ogres may be able to fashion a sheath of some sort because thier size is equivalent to the weapon, much like a longsword is for a human.

Well the easy way is to invest in a Quiver of Ehlonna. Says and i quote in the last part of the text "The third and longest portion of the case contains as many as six objects of the general size and shape as a bow (spears, staff,etc.)." It should be noted that since it is magical and can reisize to fit any bow that it should fit a glaive or any other spear type weapon IMO. :D

This is what my pole-arm weilding half-orc does. I call it his golf-bag of holding.

Can you sheath a glaive?

My Living Greyhawk character carries one of these and oftentimes switches to the hand-axe and light-flail. What does my character do with it then? There's no real in-game penalty is there?
