How do you describe casting/manifesting on the defensive?

I'm curious. IMC, I say things like "the enemy ducks and dodges and manages to get her spell off" or "the enemy sidesteps your blow, his hands moving in the air and... nothing... he curses" or, if it's a really good roll, "the enemy jumps six feet straight up, does 3 double backflips, gives you the finger, lands and casts magic missile at your sorry butt." ;)

Anyway, do you say things like that or is it just "he casts on the defensive"?

... Kind of like that, but not as insane. :uhoh: "The enemy starts moving his hands -- you think he might be casting a spell. You keep trying to hit him, but he stays just out of reach of your sword..."

What he said. I like to keep it simple - "The enemy sidesteps your blow and casts a spell, simultaneously keeping his concentration on both the magic and defense."
