How do you determine treasure?

As do I.

I also tend to hold back tightly for 3-4 Levels and then deliver the "mother load" of treasure hoards, letting them live the life of kings for a time (or investing in business ventures, buying property, building fortresses and/or estates, etc.).

Right now I've a party of 7th level celestial players with double the gold expectations in the DMG.

Last session was the first time one of them didn't die.

Almost all of the above - it varies - but usually not just plain old gold, gems and exact items.

How do you determine treasure?

What methods do you use to place treasure? (multiple choice)

I use the random tables with divisions as shown in MM entry for defeated monster

I place items that reflect the history I came up with for this encounter, who has been defeated befo

I give out gold, easily marketed gems and the exact magic items the party needs

I describe what used to be there before it sat in a tidal cave infested with rats and rust monsters
