How do You feel about Sorcerers and Metamagic Feats?

I absolutely hate the rule that Sorcerers can't quicken? Why would a Sorcerer even be allowed to take that feat if it is worthless to him? I can't believe that 3.5 didn't change this absurd rule.

I am, however, very glad that they changed Eschew Materials to a general feat!

I do wish they had improved the Sorcerer and WIzards skills though. Sorcerers should get DIplomacy and Intimidate, and Wizards should get speak language (or its equivalent). Both classes should also get 4 skill points per level. Sorcerers are supposed to be very adaptable individuals, and Wizards are supposed to be walking libraries of knowledge (kind of hard to do with 2 skill points per level).

I also wish the Sorcerer had its own spell list. If Druids don't use the Cleric spell list, there is no reason they couldn't give sorcerers their own as well. Sorcerers shouldn't have spells like leomunds chest and such.

I've never met a wizard who only got 2 skill points per level...

wow I'm glad to see this drawing so much attention.

So the consensus seems to be that there is nothing wrong at all with Sorcerers and how they handle MMfeats, with the exception, of course, of Quicken.
(makes sense and hey anything that causes a player to blow higher level slots on lower level spells deosn't seem like a bad idea.)
As long as they don't just "blow their wad" (so to speak) and then expect to lay around for the rest of the day...

Wizards with 2 Int points per level, heh -yeah Hypersmurf,
a wizard that only had 2 pts per level couldn't cast any spells higher than "level 1" but I can see the argument For them getting more skills as a class.
(But..)
Although IMHO a wizard could also suffer from "low skill point syndrome" due to the large amount of time they (theoretically) spend researching magic (in general) and spells.
Although there Is a skill or 2 for that kind of thing also..

and the beat goes on...

BTW before this gets permanently too far off topic thanks for all the input!

I think Energy Substitution is a cool feat, though it is abuseable for anyone taking sonic energy. I wouldn't allow one of my players to take sonic unless they have some kind of theme in mind.

We certainly change how a spell works if it doesn't fit the energy used. I don't make clothes ignite if a Wall of Fire is changed into a Wall of Cold.

Same thing with a cold subsituted firewall... the wall sucks the heat out of nearby objects, causing 'freezer burn'.

And ignites things?

The ruling they introduced in Tome and Blood was stupidity personified I'm afraid.

And looking at the amount of E-sub (sonic ) wizards TM...

E-sub was a cheap excuse for not enough interesting spell choices for different elements in the PHB.

What if a Cleric or Druid takes it and uses it ond Flame Strike , or Fire Storm . Both those spells have Divine damage which nothing can resist, change fire energy to sonic energy, and you have a pretty deadly spell.

I'm not a big fan of the vulnerability - eg getting only a 5-foot step.

Usually if I use a full-round spell, I do it from the cover of Invisibility. Even so, a wizard could guess my location and hit me with a Fireball.

Sure, the heat energy has to go somewhere right?

But I will point out that I don't like how metamagic is handled at all, and I have yet seen a system that is worth converting to at this time.
