How do you get your players to know the rules?

Some interesting ideas here, especially requiring players know how to do something under the rules before they can try it -

But I think, in the end, either a person is motivated to learn the rules from motivation within or they are not. And some rules don't make sense until you put them into practice.

For new players I like to have an almost training session where different things are shown durting theire ftirst adventure and they can see how the things work.
 


Rules? If the rules mean an action can't even be attempted then it should be rule Zero'ed out of existence. That doesn't mean anything should be possible but the only rule that really matters is role D20 + mods vs DC determine AoO as appropriate
