Limit Break Dancing (He/They)
It looks like 4E is shaping up to be a first-class roleplaying game, based on what I've seen go into it, and the handful of reviews I have read. As great as it is, however, I am sure that there will be some things (or many, depending on how you play) that will need "fixing" to make it Your Game.

I've heard a lot of suggestions (threats?) about how people are going to handle this. And I thought it would be fun to see how people address this delicate issue en masse.

So for the sake of argument, let's assume that you have found something in the 4E rules that completely rubs you the wrong way. You can't figure out how to make it work, it presents strange stylistic changes that you do not care for, and is a general pain in the arse at the table. There is nothing "wrong" with the rule per se, it just doesn't work for your table. In this hypothetical situation, how would you fix it?

Check any and all that apply. And remember, this is just for fun.

This is what house rules are for.
Yup, I agree. But not everyone likes them...they aren't exactly easy to write, balance, and playtest.

I don't understand this poll. Will the process be markedly different from house ruling any other game?
It's just for fun, yo. The obvious answer is to write a houserule for it, but there are other options available.

I can't really imagine I'll find anything that I will really hate, but frankly...

...I'll ask hong.

And if I don't like his answer I'll beat him with a stick. There isn't enough hong-beating going on around here these days, not like the Good Old Days (tm).

It really depends on how much of a rules-tinker you are, I guess. I'm one of those who actively enjoys tweaking and modifying the system.

I'm uncertain...Am I allowed to ask hong yet? Is there some kind of notice?

If a problem arises that my group finds frustrating, I'll likely figure out a house rule for it. After my initial campaign (which could be a while, as I'm hoping to go 1-30 with it) I plan on trying to mod up some new stuff anyway (paragon paths, epic destinies, perhaps a new build option for a class or two...).

It looks like 4e will be pretty house-rule friendly. I expect the baseline to be pretty good, but I'll house-rule any flaws I find.

I allready know what my biggest issues will be and how i'm gonna fix them.

Healing, i hate how it works in 4e, just from to bottom hate it. So I'm gonna use the healing from 3e.

And skills, everyone getting a flat bonus based on level instead of being able to customize and personalize your character also irritates me and frankly seems like a lazy way to handle skills by turning everyone into a jack of all trades. So i'm also gonna use the skill system from 3e. Coming up with a little chart for each new class and copy and pasting the skill descriptions from the SRD, (slightly tweaked) should fix that problem though.

On the fence about minions. I can see the cool factor of mowing down a bunch of a mooks but everyone else has too damn many hitpoints. So I'll try this by the rules and see what i think in play but probably wind up discarding it and just giving each monster a class and reducing everythings HP.

Marking also.... not sure how to put this politely but all the mark this, 2 measly unimportant pts to this, everyone has some damn aura that ads 1 or 2 hp to that..... Just not doing this at all. All auras and marking are out. Spells can create auras, they're magic, people cannot. So all of those powers will be replaced with something else.
