How does a lich heal himself?

I think I'll go with the idea that the phylactery provides a form of natural (unnatural?) healing.

Theoretically, to protect his phylactery, a Lich could hide/bury it somewhere that noone can access. If you're going to give it additional power, you might want to require direct contact for the healing. This gives a bit of balance to it by making it more vulnerable.

Hmmm, an odd idea borrowed a bit from Song & Silence - a small chamber (big enough for 2 or 4 medium creatures) that casts Cause X Wounds on all the occupants for as long as the door is closed... the lich uses it for healing, for living folks it is a magical trap.

In our campaign, we had fun with potions of inflict light wounds. Tasty fun for the lich, not so nice for other imbibers.

The problem was the party trying to explain to the potion guy why they wanted such potions, trying to hide the ghoul in their midst.

Excellent idea! *yoink!*

I like the idea of Plane Shifting to a negative energy plane... that feels very lichy?

Could it have it's own pocket plane... I've had players find a few of these before - normally have fun exploring them and generally find interesting uses for them.

Possibly the best so far is the touching itself method. Anyone reckon there's a cheap gag in there somewhere?

one of the pre requisits of beeing a lich is the craft wounderous item feats.

assuming the lich is at least a lvl 13 wizard with access to the limited wish spell he could craft a touch activated trap with an Automatic reset time of 1 round with any inflict spell up to 5th level.

an inflict minor wounds would trap would cost only 1x1x500 go and 1x1x40 XP
(page 75 dmg)

this does not work the description of the touch attack of the lich states that it only affects living critters.

I said that... my post on the first page is great, all encompassing, experienced!
Remember, you can Create spells... its a lost art but Lich's should be able to do it.

Just tie that to an unhallow effect (or the more powerful version of it; I forget which.)
