Pathfinder 1E How does Knowledge local work?

I understand that it would give you bonuses to rolls to see if you know anything about the local area, but what if you move to another country of sorts, would you still have knowledge local? Or does Knowledge local transgress regions?

The way it's written, it's supposed to apply equally everywhere. Think of it as a "common knowledge" sort of skill, covering things that you might learn from just walking around any town.

Even if that doesn't make a ton of sense, they need it to be that way for game purposes. It's kind of like how Religion is just one knowledge skill, and a priest of Sarenrae know exactly as much about his own goddess as he knows about Urgathoa and Kurgess.

Typically use Knowledge (Local) for a specific location, Such as Knowledge (Local: Varisia). Maybe giving a circumstance bonus if they are native to a locale, and penalty if they are visitors...adjusting it for time spent in a certain location.
