A Half-orc BArbarian has a land speed of 40

I am not sure if it's the monk or the barbarian where the Fast movement section states explicitely that it only applies to land speed...

From the 3.5e PHB

"A barbarian's land speed is faster than the norm of his race by +10 feet."

So it looks like barbarians don't swim faster than anybody else.

You guys know the movie where the martial arts master tells Reno Williams about running on water?

"You have to run very fast."

How does this translate into D&D rules ;)?

Would it apply to swimming speed for a Triton barbarian? to flying speed to an aarakocra barbarian?

Yes, but the speed at which a creature with out a listed swim speed can swim via the swim skill is based on the creatures land speed. So IMO since the speed at which you can swim is based on your land speed I think that anything that increased your land speed would increase the speed at which you can swim by using the swim skill. The Barbarian's speed bonus would of course not increase an actual Swim speed (or Fly, Climb, and Burrow speeds). That is my take on it anyway.

Yeah thats what I thought too, swim speed is half land speed

but the Barbs speed bonus gives Land Speed +10 so is that land only or speed overall?

I probably stick with Swim = 20 until I get something authoritative...

What about monks?

Fast Movement (Ex): At 3rd level, a monk gains an enhancement bonus to her speed,

Since landspeed isn't mentioned here...
If a 3rd level human monk gets a +10 movement bonus does this translate to a swimming speed of:

-15 (base movement/2)
-20 (base movement+10/2)
-35? (base movement/2+10)
