How good at note-taking are your players?

As a player I take notes depending on my character. If I am playing a barbarian, you won't see a single pencil in my hand except to mark off hit points. If I am playing a bard, I will constantly have a pencil in my hand and I am always writting journal entries. Sooner or later I am going to go through my notes with my bard and post them in the Story Hour section for all to read (or whoever wanders in)

But one thing is always the same no matter when I play. I am always making maps for the party. The DM will describe the area... give a few seconds and i will have some of the area sketched out. All the other players enjoy this because it helps us from getting lost. The only thing they don't like is when I hope behind the DM screen to DM my campaign and they don't have a cartographer.

I currently DM two different groups. One group is horrible at taking notes, but then again they really don't need to take many notes because it has been mostly hack and slash for now (Night Below - Middle of Book #2). The other group has one player that takes notes like no buddy's business.
