How have you explained roleplaying to your spouse/SO?

so it's not explaining what roleplaying is, but why you would want to do it.

Well the first question is, Kitesh, why do YOU do it?

(for me, it's escapism as well as a creative outlet).

A number of people in another thread have mentioned that Shelly Mazzanoble's Confessions of a Part-Time Sorceress helped their wives understand D&D.

I would give you experience points for finally mentioning that book, but the system says I gave you some before. It is a good read even if you already play RPGs.

My answer has been that it allows me to exercise the problem solving and creative parts of my brain, while at the same time act like a goofball with my friends without them making fun of me.

I'm a naturally creative and outgoing person, and my job (and life in general) don't give me many opportunities to use those skills, and I miss them!

Oh and it's also an excuse to eat good food and generally laugh and socialize with my friends too.
