My dog ate one of my Dragon magazines, where does that fall under?

I've not lost many gaming books. I almost never loan them out, and when I do, it's to people who I trust and know where they live...

That said, the only gaming books I've ever owned but no longer have are a couple of old MERP books, which I traded to a friend for his copy of the 2E World Builder's Guidebook.

Had to sell stuff for food and rent

I was forced to sell more than 90% of my 2nd Edition D&D collection in order to pay for food and my rent for at least two months in the Summer of 1998. It was a HUGE collection.

*sigh* :(

I also had to sell some more stuff recently for food money.

Mostly I loan them out and never see them again. But once I lost my entire collection of Vampire: The Masequerade books in an unusual incident - they were soaked in jet fuel and ruined. I was serving a tour of duty aboard the USS Kitty Hawk in '94, and I loaned my entire collection of Vampire books to a friend who wanted to GM a game. Well, he was a jet fuel airman and a JP5 line ran through his bunkroom. One night the line burst and the entire space flooded with JP5. He slept on the bottom bunk and my books, of course, were on the floor next to his rack. All dozen of them. Thankfully no one was hurt, but I lost about 200 bucks' worth of stuff.

I've never lost or seriously damaged any product I've owned. Most are in pristine condition. I never lend any RPG-related stuff to anyone under any circumstances. I make that clear with every group I play in.

I once ordered an RPG product from a trustworthy company in Texas. It never showed up. I told them so they kindly sent a replacement without charging me a second time. That didn't turn up either. I gave up after that. I didn't think they would believe me if I told them it had gone missing twice. The postal worker(s) who stole them probably threw them away. :( Bastards!

I guess I've been lucky. I have always loaned out books to new players and first time DM's, and I have always gotten everything back. In fact, one player even went out on his own and got me a brand new copy of Best of Dragon Vol. 2 when the one I loaned him got damaged.

I don't think I've ever lost any of my books. Just lucky I guess. One of the books in my City of Greyhawk boxed set got chewed on by a kitten, left a little row of toothmarks down one side of the cover. We just taped it up. I was mad at the time (I was 11 or so), but looking back it's pretty funny. A kitten. Heh.
