Why move on?

I'm not happy with the way things are going because we were told something different. You see, Ed Greenwood is supposed to be back in control of the Forgotten Realms and I know for a fact, that Ed wants less interactions with mortals and the actual gods. He wants to return it to characters interacting more with their servants, clerics, etc...

What we've got is the opposite. The first two modules are about fighting Tiamat, and possibly another god or godlike being. Apparently, someone at WoTc seems to think that fighting gods is the only cool when in fact, it's become such a snoozefest that it's not even funny

Actually... the first module has nothing to do with fighting Tiamat, and all about fighting her clerics and servants. So you're getting what you want. ;)

Scrapped.

Tiamat was a minor deity who was barely known outside of the Old Empires in the Forgotten Realms. There are plenty of other creatures and stories they could have used that are a lot more interesting.

They claim to be bringing FR back to the way it was, well as close as possible, and one way they could have done it was bring the Cult of the Dragon back to more of it's origins. They could have revived Sammaster and have him resurrected inside the body of a Dracolich and resume his leadership of the Cult. It seems to me they just used the name of the cult and decided that since it's called Cult of the Dragon, it will then worship dragons. By moving away from the goal of turning all dragons into dracoliches, they have really cheapened the cult and it's origins.

Funny thing. I was reading some lore on dracoliches the other day and came across a reference to the Cult of the Dragon. It mentioned how Sammaster mistranslated a passage, which lead to him believing Faerun was to be ruled by undead dragons. This plot point predates Tyranny of Dragons by years.
So the hook of the Cult of the Dragon retranslating the script and coming up with a different prophecy works with the lore. And it makes an interesting schism in the Cult, where you have orthodox Cultists believing in draoliches and the reformers who worship Tiamat. That works and adds a new faction to the Realms, which builds off established lore.

My problems with it have nothing to do with invalidating FR lore/canon or whatever. That stuff is all crap to me so I don't care. Its just not that well written.

...orthodox Cultists such as Sailor Moon, who cling to dracolich supremacy?

I don't give a bent nail for who decides the size and shape of FR, as long as there's a good story at the game table.

You are correct. What gives the cult it's unique flavour is the fact that it is based on a mistranslation of the text. They believe dracoliches are supposed to rule the world. Nothing there about Tiamat. If you wanted to add a god in there then Null would be better because he is the dragon god of death.

Or indeed Sandesyl Morgia, the cultist encountered on p.81 of "Hoard of the Dragon Queen".

I'm actually quite glad of the multiple threads about how bad this adventure is. Because although I wouldn't describe it as 'good', it's a long way from the disaster I had come to expect, and it really helps to have had my expectations significantly lowered.

Actually, according to Shemeska, there is no account of her being imprisioned. It was made up on the spot in order to create the AP.

Well, it's not simply what Shemeska says: it's every single reference to Tiamat in FR history up to this point. But, hey, clearly Tiamat sells otherwise we wouldn't have Dragonlance, Red Hand of Doom, Scales of War, and now Tyranny of Dragons.

And while I don't normally correct people's grammar online: should of? C'mon, should have.
