Not really. You can make simple wizard, using 3.5 warlock as model. Earlier in the thread, i gave rough outline of simple wizard. Slots/spells known/prepared go down the drain. That's advanced add on. Simple wizard has magic offense/defense that scales like cantrips in 5e. So at firs level, offense would be 1d8 to single or 1d4 to two targets, defense would be negate 1d8 damage to single target or 1d4 to 2 targets. Utility - expanded prestidigitation cantrip. At levels 5/10, that goes up to 2d8/3d8, multitargeting goes to 2xd8/3xd8. It is slightly more complex than say fighter, but compared to classic wizard from 3ed onward, it's dead simple.
