How is it done?

Hmm. Although this is a house rule and not really in the right forum, I think, I'd definitely allow the spiked-chain to be used as a disrupting weapon. I see no imbalance in doing so.

Neither do I but if my DM saw a feat in an official book, that let e kill everything in a 100' radius, sure he'd let me.:( "Whatever is in the book"

'course, you wouldn't see such a feat in an official book. ;)

I don't think I'd allow the feat for asthetic reasons. I just can't see a spiked chain dealing the same sort of impact as a mace or warhammer. I might buy into slashing (as the spikes tear through flesh) but bludgeoning? Nah.

If I did allow it, I wouldn't allow the enchantment for the same reasons already stated by EOL.

Oh, ye of little faith. :p

Actually, I like the idea of an upsized light flail. Taking it a bit further, a Large morningstar would also do 2d6 damage, and be a simple weapon to boot. Now there's something for a cleric....

The feat, as written, would not let you change the weapon type for enchantment purposes.

Also, I might make it part of a two feat chain with a bit less power in the feat.

First would be Improved Subdual where you get to strike for subdual damage with any weapon at no penalty.

Second is the feat under discussion. It is quite powerful because it might allow a weapon to damage something it otherwise could not. It still would not change the weapons base type for enchantment purposes.

I would allow it to change the weapon type, I think under the following circumstances:

1. Both feats I set out above are required, but the second feat simply allows you to strike with the weapon in an unusual manner at a-4 penalty (non-proficiency)

2. You need to take the Exotic Weapon Proficiency feat to wield a weapon properly in this unusual way - and, at that point, you may enchant it in this mode as well, but such enchantments are ONLY effective if one has all the feats needed to use it properly.

To make it clearer; your Spiked Chain could have the Disruption property, but it would ONLY work if you have the Exotic Weapon Proficient: "Use Spiked Chain as Bludgeoning,” which requires the two other feats first. Anyone else using your Spiked Chain would find the Disruption enchantment simply did not work.

I'd do it this way to allow you to have the choices you want, but they would be very expensive for the character.

That is why he said "Large Light Flail". If you go the standard sizing rules, the Heavy Flail is to weak. I don`t know why it is this way. Perhaps it has proven that a large weapon with which you can trip and disarm is too good. (But you could use the Stats - except the size - to make the Flail a medium size "Bastard Flail"... and use the Large Light Flail as the new heavy flail.. But this is OT...)
