We don't play weekly. Usually twice a month.
Our sessions are 6-10 p.m., and because of work schedules we hardly ever start before that or go longer. We run a tight ship, y'know.

My sessions are usually monthly rather than weekly (I run a monthly game, and I'm a player in another monthly game). And then there's a third group that runs more like 4-5 times per year. The only trend seems to be the less often we meet, the longer the individual session.

If I were doing it once a week, I think 3 hours would be about as long as I would go at a shot.

We usually go closer to five hours, but we don't play weekly. In fact, lately, we've been very sporadic indeed, but we're probably going to go to something like bi-weekly, or two of three weeks, or something like that.

If we meet every other week should we split the session length in half? :\

About 6 hours (noon to 6:30 pm with a lunch/dinner break) every two weeks.

I run a weekly campaign that starts at 6:30pm and ends at 10:00pm, at least officially. The truth of the matter is that one of the players generally arrives a little late, and we don't start ramping up the game until 6:45 or 7:00. We do tend to get a solid 2.5-3.0 hours of gaming in with each session. Some days, though, it's hard to get anything done, and we aren't as productive, but that's less than half the time. (It used to be worse, but I've got more focused gamers now. :) )

Hope This Helps,
Flynn

4 hours is typical of the groups I've been in, most typically from 6 to 10 or 5 to 9.

I've had shorter ones, like 2.5 hours for a Star Wars campaign when it was being run after our campus gaming club meetings which typically ended around 7:30 and the building closed at 10:00.

I've also had much longer ones. My first D&D campaign had 8 or 9 hours sessions regularly: 4 PM saturday to midnight or 1 AM Sunday morning. Last year for several months I was in a nWoD campaign that was supposed to have 8 hour sessions (2 PM to 10 PM on Sunday), but was more in practice 10 or 11 hour sessions (1 PM, she'd start running as soon as most people were there, even if you arrived "on time" before 2 the game might be going if she wanted to start earlier, and she'd run until she felt she was done for the night, which often meant going until midnight, which was hard on those of us who had to work the next day.)

Our group does biweekly sessions, due to families and desires to have some weekends off.

When we get together, we usually run from 11-12 (depending on when we all arrive) to roughly 5-6 (again, depending on the weekend).

So let's say 5 hours and call it done. ;)

My Monday group usually runs -4.5 hours. Same for my Wednesday group. I play in a bi weekly Sunday group that usually goes for more like 5-6 hours.
