I voted 18 months, but we're slow because we often have 2-3 campaigns at the same time and some of them get only 1 session a month. The longest campaigns have lasted longer than 2 years, but they both had pauses.

This is very hard to say.

My D20 campaigns tended to last between 6 months and a year-and-a-half.

Paranoia tends to be run as single adventures; Over the Edge about 3-4.

My two longest running campaigns (Plains of Prax for RQ, Gelwich-Aquarda for Ars Magica) ran for over five years each.

I'd say with most systems, the campaigns I run are good for about a year and a half.

The campaigns I've run that were "native" 3E / 3.5 (that is, they started out with those rules) have typically lasted 3-4 years. But, I'd note that we probably don't play as often as some of you; once a month for each of them, if we're lucky.

That said, there's a shared 3.5 campaign (several DMs) that I play in that's over 25 years old. It started out as Blue Book Basic D&D around 1980 or so (before I joined the group), and has transitioned to 1E AD&D, 2E, 3E, and now 3.5.

the story hour in my sig. (Olgar Shiverstone as DM) ran from Aug 2002 until April 2006.
edit: ended when Olgar got sent up North by the USArmy

Our first 3e campaign started in 2001, and ended early this January, with one original member (a human Fighter 1/Kineticist 1/Psychic Warrior 11) still active (a few others retired, and most died :))

Our 2e campaing before that lasted about three or four years, and characters were in the 9-11 level range when it ended (well, my character, a specialty priest of Grumbar was 11th level, due to the overly generous XP advancement table for specialty priests in FR's Faiths & Avatars supplement).

When I run a campaign, it's only for a very short while (a couple of sessions, at most), since I'm the backup for the party's backup DM :P

Regards.

Usually a month or two before my dm ADD kicks in making me want to play something else. I know its bad, but I'm trying to fix this.

Unfortunately, my typical campaigns over the past few years have resembled this. It is a running joke now for a "campaign" to last past the first session. I'm working on fixing that.

I would estimate our typical campaign to last about 9 to 12 months, playing 4 times a month for about 5 to 6 hours per session. We usually stop around 9th to 11th level.
