How Long (in game) do your dungeon crawls last?

A dungeon crawl should probably last until the players or the DM are tired of it. I've had them last 5 or so sessions, which would be 5 weeks real time.

I think when we played the Aerie of the Crow god that lasted longer than 5 weeks, but I could be wrong. That however really seemed to have a good story behind it and part of it didn't seem to be, "Oh the bad guys decided to make this there lair and dug it out for several years."

In the Ptolus campaign I'm in our dungeon delves, which have all been in the sewers, except one, have lasted 1 or 2 sessions and I was disappointed at least once because as soon as we got above ground the game ground to a halt while we decided what to do next.

The dungeons in the Age of Worms have been quite lengthy so far- especially the temples in 3FoE. That said, I actually like running big dungeon crawls, and my players enjoy 'em too.

I think the largest was one I ran in 2nd edition- Doomdark Dungeon, which was 9 levels and took 7 sessions to play through.

That took 35 4-hour sessions. Normally, though, a good dungeon is 1-2 game sessions and at most a few days game-time. Maybe 3 sessions if it's a 3-leveller like Enlandin.

They are mostly a pop-in affair up to a point (no more than 4-5 hours in). Once you get venture beyond that point, it's just a pain in the butt to keep going in and out.

There have been a few campaigns where we get plopped into a dungeon and we have to find our way out, and those have lasted up for 2 weeks in game time, but that was after our party passed a certain level (8th?, 10th?) so magic could work around inconvenieces. We were all tired of gruel from create food spells, and prestidigitation suddenly became a whole lot more useful. :)

Depends on the situation - this last crawl took three years (that would be about five weeks for most folks as we only play once or twice a month, but do so all day). Some of the new ones are site specifc and will take only a couple of hours to roll through, so a couple per game. Standard anything is never something to strive for, be creative and put things in for a reason, not just to have them.

You guys should have renamed it Poopsidigitation by the time you finally got out.... :)

Are you sure you're talking about dungeon-delving?

a few days usually... the last one took more than 2 months because the PCs had to go back to town (which was a long way off) to buy anti-petrafection magiks for their friends.
