It generally takes me 6 - 8 hours to paint a mini. But I paint them as a hobby as well as for roleplaying purposes. If I really only wanted to just get some color on them I could do it much faster.
I would never paint at the gaming table. Not only would it take my mind and my eyes off the game, I'd be worried that someone else would bump my elbow or spill my paint.
