How many attacks/round does a level 8 ranger get?

Pielorinho

Assuming TWF style, I think it's five: 2 with the main weapon, 1 normal with the off-hand weapon, 1 at -5 with the off-hand weapon, and 1 at -10 with the off-hand weapon. Is this correct?

No. you''ll get 6/6/1/1 (assuming no strength or WF bonus)
first attack is primary hand with 8 BAB - 2 TWF penalty
Second attack is off hand with 8 BAB - 2 TWF penalty
Third attack is primary hand with 8 BAB - 5 iterary attack - 2 TWF penalty
Fourth is off-hand with 8 BAB - 5 iterary attack - 2 TWF penalty

You have to have GTWF, which you can't get until you get three attacks with your primary hand, for a third offhand attack. Your offhand will never have more atatcks than your primary.

Ah, okay, I see my error--I thought TWF granted an extra attack. I figured there was probably something wrong, but I was having trouble finding it. Thanks!

There is a handy table on pg 22 of the PHB that comes in real handy. Table 3-1: Base Save and BAse Attack Bonuses.

An 8th level ranger has a BAB of +8 (good progression):

The table says:
+8/+3

The penalties for two weapon fighting depend on the type of weapon used in each hand (see table 8-10 on page 160)

If neither weapon is light then the penalties are -4/-4 (due to two weapon fighting feat) (2 less for primary and 6 less for off hand).

If off hand weapon is light then the penalties are: (-2/-2)

So with a light off hand weapon and two weapon fighting style (and improved two weapon fighting style) feat the attacks are:
+6/+1 (primary hand) and an off hand attack with a +6 attack and another off hand (due to the improved two weapon fighting style, at +1)

So that is 4 attacks:

2 with primary hand +6/+1

2 with off hand +6/+3

That doesn't look right but the off hand attacks are at -2 (first attack) and -5 (second attack) - all calculated from your BAB.

Two weapon fighting doesn't give you an extra attack, it reduces the penalties from making an off hand attack.

Improved two weapon fighting gives an additional off hand attack at a -5.

You forgot to apply the -2 penalty (for fighting with two weapons and the off-hand being light) to that last off-hand attack.

That makes sense but the improved two weapon fighting feats says the following:

IMPROVED TWO-WEAPON FIGHTING [GENERAL]
Prerequisites: Dex 17, Two-Weapon Fighting, base attack bonus +6.
Benefit: In addition to the standard single extra attack you get with an off-hand weapon, you get a second attack with it, albeit at a –5 penalty.
Normal: Without this feat, you can only get a single extra attack with an off-hand weapon.
Special: A fighter may select Improved Two-Weapon Fighting as one of his fighter bonus feats.
A 6th-level ranger who has chosen the two-weapon combat style is treated as having Improved Two-Weapon Fighting, even if he does not have the prerequisites for it, but only when he is wearing light or no armor.

IIRC all penalties are supposed to be from your BAB and since you must have two weapon fighting for Improved two weapon fighting and it talks about an additional attack.

Really what it should say is an additional -5 penalty on your off hand attack, which would include all of those other penalties.

IcyCool and Seffbasilisk are correct.

An easy rule of thumb is that, all other things being equal, your off-hand attacks will equal your main-hand attacks, and will be at the same bonuses.

I would read that as a -5 to the attack bonus of the 1st off hand attack, or +6 - 5 for +1. The it in the sentance refers back to the first part of the sentance, not to your BAB, at least to me anyway.
