How many CDs do you own?

The music thread got me curious as how many CDs most people have. Myself, I haven't counted in a while, but I would guess it's right around 500 at this point. 98% of it is classical stuff, mostly composed after 1900. The pride of my collection is Carl Orff's De Temporum Fine Comoedia an opera that I came across at Borders of all places. I tried recommending it to some people on a mailing list once and I couldn't find it at any online music retailer. So, its existance is a curiosity, and seems uber rare.

So, two questions:
How many CDs do you own?
What is the pride of your collection?

Strictly guessing, but we are probably in the ballpark of a hundred, with that number erroring on the low side I think. All my CD's from my younger days were stolen and I just don't buy CDs that often anymore.

And the pride of the collection is probably the Metallica, No Life Til Leather CD that actually has Dave Mustaine on a few songs.

Just over 1,200

I used to be a DJ, and worked as a body piercer (at that time) right beside a record store where the import guy new me well and new my tastes... At LEAST twice a week he'd show up at my work place with 2-3 imports that I *needed* at $25-$40 each.

So not only 1,200 CDs, but a fair number of them are rares / expensive imports. Blah.

In fact, last week, I finally started ripping many of them to mp3.

I need access to that!!

You sure? It's almost all 90's Industrial music. Lots of KMFDM, Ministry & Skinny Puppy.

What am I proud of?

Hmmm...

I have every single release by Meat Beat Manifesto up there on the wall, including multiple copies of CDs that were released with different tracks in different countries. Ditto for Nine Inch Nails.

I've sold back a lot of them, but I still probably have 400-500 or so. Probably the pride of my collection is the rare stuff; I got the first Visage album many years before it was re-released by Virgin, for example. Same for "Metamatic" by John Foxx.

That's not such a big deal anymore; they were all rereleased in the early 90s and still seem to be generally available.

My most coveted CD is the first Mysterious Arts CD, which I can't even remember the name of. The one with "Das Omen" and "Requiem" and "Humunculus."

And probably the one I listen to the most is "Disconnect" by Iris, or maybe "Monosex" by De/vision.

Rough guestimate, about a thousand. Similar situation to Hellhound. I was in the record biz for twenty years. If I still had every cd that had made it's way into my collection the number would easily be five or six times that number. I just don't like toting around tons of crap. I did some serious collection trimming, starting about six years ago. Ditto with my lps.

Very mixed collection. Every cd I own is a favorite. It's hard to pick a single one. Cd's just don't have the same "personality" and specialness to me that an lp can have. Quite a few are irreplaceable though.

Zero (and no, I don't have gigabytes of pirated music stashed away somewhere, either; I just don't really like any music enough to spend money on it, and even if I weren't pretty militiant in defending IP rights, I don't like anything enough to spend the time finding it to download, either). I'm really, really strange in this regard.
