D&D 5E How many combats does your 5e group typically have between long rests, if you have at least one?

In a day with combat, how many combats do you typically have between long rests?

*emphasis mine*

I don't see that as a problem. It's a feature, not a bug.

Whether it is a feature or a bug, the main point of interest in this context is that people who think of it as I've described will give smaller answers to the poll question even for the exact same number/disposition of opponents.

It might be more useful for the poll to ask the percentage of the XP budget which is used per day.

For those having a hard time understanding 6-8 encounters per adventuring day:

As a DM, I try to re-create a bit of cinema. Star Wars movies are a good example of multiple encounters.

1) Luke and Co hide from Stormtroopers after getting pulled into Death Star
2) Luke and Co Ambush Stormtroopers and put on their gear
3) Luke and Co wander Death Star making their way to Leia
4) Luke and Co Fight in Prisoner section, freeing Leia
5) Luke and Co fight an Otyugh in the Trash Compactor while trying to escape
6) Luke and Co Flee through Death Star in Chase/Battle with cool get across pit challenge
7) Luke and Co Escape in Millenium Falcon
and so on

Note: None of these are Epic fights that leave anyone on deaths door. Those of us who do 6+ encounters are trying to re-create this.

Don't get me wrong, we have days where only 1-3 fights are had, and they rest because they NEED it. Its not an always thing, but by and large that is where we sit. Luke and Co simply could not take a long rest on the Death Star after the prison break, and likely didn't need one before.

*caveat: I know, movie not same as RP game...its just an example*
