total: 67 -- and that's not counting the sets I bought for each player in my gaming group.
a lot of it comes down (at least for me) is how many do you use. I use the following
3d20
1d12
2d10
3d8
5d6
5d4
I have a few others (without raiding my board games) but I don't go "dice crazy" I have given away or sold as sets about 3 times what I currently have and have not bought any new dice in over 10 years.
I saw some today that were 2d6 in one -- a tiny d6 inside another transparent d6 -- and I also saw Japanese and Roman numberal d6s, and huge d20s that were baseball sized -- I would love to have any of these!
You can get the die-within-a-die at DEI Games. They don't have baseball sized d20's AFAIK but they do have ones that are 55mm (about 2.25 inches) across. They're not on their site but they definitely have them. They're $5 each and come in a choice of 3 colours: red, black and bone. Send them an e-mail for more info. DEI also sells Face to Face with Dice, the only book in English about dice per se (not dice games, gambling with dice and so on).
The Japanese and Roman numeral d6's are distributed by Koplow. You may be able to get them from DEI. Send them an e-mail. They're very good about getting stuff in even if it isn't on their site.
Very cool odd dice, Zander -- I love the little skulls. I remember seeing something similar done with squished-up pewter gargoyles (they were more or less cube shaped, but definitely not regular). I don't remember why I didn't pick them up, but I've never seen them again.
Thanks. I like the skull d5's too. They came in an OOP German game called Calva D'Os.
I have a few other pics of weird dice in my collection. I haven't posted them because I didn't want to hijack your thread. But if you like, I'd be happy to add a few more. Just say the word...
