I have a "standard set" I use when I play consisting of a d20 the size of a golf ball, four identical d6s, two d8s (one green, one red) two d10s (one 0-9, one 00-90, one green, one red), one d12 (red) and one d4 (green), all from the same Chessex line so they're a matched set despite the color differences.
When I GM, I usually have a small pile of mixed dice, as well as a couple of complete sets I hand out to people who forgot or don't have dice, a set of 12 "fire" d6s that I use for area effect spells, and usually another set of matching d6s of some sort that I use for counters, map markers, or small groups of identical mooks.
