The warden was a really neat Idea in 4e for me. Tougher than a barbarian, flavorful primal attack powers, and some interesting versatility (kind of), a pretty darn solid defender.

Things that would make a warden to me:
-d14 hitdice :P
-Choices about becoming even tougher, a better protector, or a number of other thematic things
-powers that had a strong primal feel, often area effects that weren't very damaging, but provided good control
-Guardian forms that made big fights feel cooler when you drew upon the strength of a mountain to withstand the punishment of a dragon was certainly going to pour onto you

There are a couple of candidates in 5e:

1) The totem barbarian is very reminiscent of the warden with its totem animal forms and such. You have some level of choice, and can go for toughness, mobility, teamwork, much like wardens could. Probably what I would go for if I were trying to recreate one of my 4e wardens.
2) The vow of ancients paladin is a different version of a woodlands knight, imo. It isn't a replacement for people who liked the flavor of the warden, but could fulfil the desire of someone coming fresh to the concept of forrest knight.
3) ranger or druid: You can make a primal warrior and pretend its a warden using these classes. But I don't think they actually cover enough of the warden feel to make someone who was really into 4e wardens to feel like they've made a warden (that is to say, I wouldn’t buy it).

A 5e class of warden would be pretty cool, but I'm betting that the official feelings are that one of the aboves is enough for us, and I could probably feel like a totem barabarian is close enough to my old warden that I won't lose sleep over it.

Put me down as another one who saw the Oath of the Ancients paladin as the warden-equivalent. The three oaths seemed pretty self-explanatory to me... Devotion was standard paladin, Ancients was the warden, Vengeance was the avenger. All of which meant we didn't need the warden or avenger to be full 20-level classes.

Put me down for it so.

Really, the real issue for most 4e magical classes is that you do them with a B- to C+ quality by just giving PHB classes a few spells and tweaking one class feature.

75% of a 4e character was it's powers and for magical classes... those are just spells in 5th edition. If the spell to "do it right" doesn't exist... you can just create a spell and hand it to the correct class.

For a 4th edition magical class to get a full class in 5th, you must find the spirit of the class and revision the whole thing. And then it would look nothing like the 4e version.

For be fair, many 3rd and 2nd edition magical classes would have the same exact problem. They are just a arcane trickster, cleric, druid, eldritch knight, paladin, warlock, or wizard with a few more spells on the list.

I also think it's pretty clear the Oath of the Ancients paladin was meant to be the 5E warden. It may not do it for people who liked the specific mechanics, but conceptually it's an obvious port over from 4E. (And, as others have said, ditto the Oath of Vengeance/avenger.)

I think, at most, we could stand to see a few paladin spells that resemble some of the warden stances for people who want a closer parallel. But a brand new class? No, not at this point. (And this coming from someone who played and enjoyed the warden.)

So lemon curry, because it's not part of your culture, isn't racist...but "taco" is part of your culture and that, somehow, makes it racist? You know that lemon curry is a foodstuff that is part of another [someone else's] culture, right?

Taco is no more racist than lemon curry...or if it had said marinara sauce or coq au vin...or tika masala or bbq ribs or lo mein or sushi or strudel or empanadas or paella or cornish pasty or haggis or, hell, mashed potatoes...or or or...

Your position/argument...makes no sense.

IMO: it would fit as a barbarian sub-class.

Pull of nature -> When an enemy attacks an ally within 20' of you, you can use your reaction to pull that creature adjacent (or pull yourself adjacent if the creature is more then 2 sizes larger). The creatures next attacks are made against you.

Rage of winter's herald -> while raging, all squares within 20' of you are difficult terrain for your enemies.

Well, I don't know. Nobody so far came up and manifested being offended by that use. Anyway it isn't as if I necessarily approve of it. I alway thought someone could find it offensive so I have never put it as an option on any of my polls (I use lemon pie instead, or cookie, cookie is a funny word on any language). I just never voiced it, because it isn't my culture, I don't get to decide how someone from a culture where curry is important might or should feel about it -as far as I know I have no idea how it works-.

But this is about my culture. And I do find the usage of "Taco" offensive, I could feel better about it if it was more nuanced to sound absurd -as I think lemon curry tries to be absurdist or something -, but not, just plain taco, as if it was a laughing matter. Or if it was a different dish, there are countless of them, not just the theme park dish.

What the hell is a Warden?

I think it s a guy somewhere in between hunter and druid who decided that instead of a pet he ll wield a shield and instead of magic plate armor... I think.
So if I remember correctly it s a defensive fighter living in a forest for some reason.
