Why have a wardrobe, when you can have a closet which is better for holding old musty clothes with designer labels, or a sewing machine that will allow you to create different appearances but still have designer labels. Or lets just break up the wardrobe to be a music box with a lot of storage, or a just plain old chest because simple it better. But if any one mentions modular furniture, just remember it is a sales tactic to boost your initial interest. In reality no one wants modular furniture.:erm:

Seriously! Ever since they forked off "clothes storage" into its own item, instead of being part of chests where it had always been before, all we've done is limit the potential, capacity, and significance of the noble chest. Back in my day, we didn't need a list of things we could store in a container printed on our character sheets. We just put whatever we wanted into them! Stop rollpacking and start rolepacking!

Im calling the police! this is the most disgusting thing i have ever read. YOU KNOW your not allowed to talk about warwardroooo i cant even say the word

As free-form as the 5e rules are, I think you can just reskin a juvenile gazebo as a wardrobe without too much modification.

Wardrobes are great for TotM but there aren't any minis for them so you have to use Lego cupboards and that ruins immersion. Also,

  1. There are wardrobes in Skyrim and Bethesda holds the copyright.
  2. They were left out of the MM because someone at WotC was on jury duty.
  3. They are part of the upcoming Innkeeper background in the next adventure.
  4. Have you ever tried to role-play a wardrobe?
  5. When every dead goblin has 3cp and 2d6 wardrobes in its pouch, it gets boring fast.
  6. Look, are you taking this game seriously?

Roll or choose.

I like the idea as long as it isn't just a stand alone thing. It would just feel way too odd to get a wardrobe without all the other useful furniture and furnishings we might benefit from. And it absolutely has to fit in with the other rules of the game. We already have freeform rules for AC and hp values of objects in the DMG. I will not be happy if the wardrobe comes out using some completely different system for AC and hp.

On the other hand, a part of me thinks it would be cool if they really fully covered the subject. If we get a full hardback on furniture and furnishings (well, actually I'd like clothing and accouterments in there also...and maybe utensils and decorations) then I might overlook some mechanical disagreement with the basic rules in the DMG. But I'd absolutely have to be able to find everything I would want in this new book, or it would have to have new rules for making up object stats that are consistent with the examples it does provide.

A hobgoblin called Flatpak once confessed (after being repeatedly inflicted with non-lethal flurries of blows by our half-shark monk Rosateeth) that he was a secret worshipper of Ikea, the Goddess of Wardrobes and Soft Furnishings.

We knew something was afoot but it all hinged on him opening up. So we shelved the question and referred him to a panel of interrogators who would know how to handle it.
