My little group is pretty good at roleplaying, particularly when the PCs are interacting with each other. That said, the strength of their roleplaying is usually in the actions of the characters, rather than any personal mannerisms or verbalisms (with a couple of exceptions). That has certainly been my own pattern as a roleplayer; even when speaking in character, I usually avoid adopting a different voice, at least to too great an extent.
To Takyris' list of "Hardcore Roleplaying Actions" I would like to add being willing to walk into an unwinnable, certain-death situation, and indeed for the character to die, if it fits with that particular character.
