How many hours a year do you play?

Greetings!

I may post a poll later, but first I would like to get some general responses to guage appropriate ranges.

This query grew out of the number of folks on this board stating they do not play face-to-face D&D these days.

So the question is:
How many hours did you play D&D face-to-face last year?

I did a little count using my DM Logs and I come up with about 120 hours for me, which I consider pretty decent. Compared to my time on gaming messageboards and otherwise preparing for my games it's pretty pitiful though ;)

Last year, I DMed 34 sessions of my long-term Rebirth campaign; an average session lasts for about 7 hours, so that's 238 hours.

As a player, I played about 20 sessions of d20 Modern (@4 hours each), so that's 80 hours; I also played in 3 sessions in another D&D game, so that's another 18.

Total time: 336 hours. Not bad.

Not enough. Seriously, and unfortunately, my gaming that has gone on hiatus, would play on an inconsistent basis. We had a bi-weekly schedule, but then that didn't work too well. If I had to estimate, 144 hours (or 6 days straight).

I estimated based on the number of hours I play each week. Sometimes we miss a session, but sometimes we play two or get in a long one, so it should be pretty close to correct. By my estimate I played 260 hours last year.

My number is probably similar to yours.

We theoretically game every other week, but sometimes things interfere. Say 20 times a year. Each session is about 4 hours. 80 hours. Maybe 100

That's sad. :(

- 120 hours in my two main F2F campaigns (5 hours a session, each meets roughly once a month).
- 85 hours in my other F2F campaign (3 or 4 sessions at 5 hours each, plus two long weekends of heavy play).
- 30 or so hours at GenCon Indy.

That yields 235 hours a year.

Plus, I frequently play RPGA games online (in chat rooms); that's another 8 hours a week, probably 40 weeks out of the year, for a total of 320 hours / year in online play.

Grand total of 555 hours. Cripes. :D

My campaign: guessing 9 sessions a year, 4.5 hours per session, = 40 hours.

Campaign 2: guessing 18 sessions a year, 3.5 hours per session, = 63 hours.

Campaign 3: guessing 8 sessions a year, 6 hours per session, = 48.

Round Robin Group: guessing 8 sessions per year, 4 hours per session, = 32.

Total = about 180 hours per year. And this may be a slight overestimation.

Gaming is one of the most entertaining things in my life. That's a lot of pressure to make those 180 hours as fun as they can be. And that's why, I assume, so many people spend other hours either crafting their games, making characters, reading rules, reading setting material, and of course discussing the game online -- all in a quest to make their precious gaming hours pay off even more.
