How many people can be in a 5'X5' square?

I don't normally even respond to this sort of post, but I will just this once. Reapersaurus was pretty much right on in his comments, but not entirely, as my comments here show.

You need to read the previous post for this to make any sense.

It was my opinion. I thought he was condescending. I'm not allowed an opinion?
Sure you are. But play nice, would you, PLEASE?!?
I wasn't saying that. If you take it that way, that's your problem.
Yes, do did coem across as if you were stating the RULES, not your opinion. That was very, very clear to apparently everyone but you.
No I didn't. Maybe you should pay closer attention.
Yep - you did.
Why? I didn't "get caught" doing anything. Also, I apologized to him for snapping at him, but I guess you weren't paying attention. You really ought to work on that.
He was paying attention.
My heart bleeds. By the way, you coming in here long after the fires have died down, spitting accusations left and right when you don't even have a clue as to what you're talking about, that prevents me from having any respect for you in the first place. So, I guess we're even.
His statement was without tact, but it was how I looked at it, too (except for the respect thing).
Again, you're not paying attention. Sad.
No, you are apparently not paying attention to your own statement, or else you just don't realize how they are coming across to everyone.
So now you're calling people idiots? Wow. I didn't even stoop that low.
Well, he didn't call anyone in particular an idiot - but he was a bit out of line nonetheless.
You know, it looks like you just manufactured your own rule there. So, does that make you an idiot?
Please - he did no such thing.
Really? Seems to me it was about 80% bashing and served no other real purpose than to dredge this crap up all over again.
Inflammatory.
:(PLAY NICE.:(

Please.

No. You don't know. I never argued that one person should not get a save in a 5-foot wide corridor. I don't know where you got that from.

I think he got it from this earlier post of yours:

You also have to use some sort of logic. If you're in a corridor that's 5-feet wide and 10-feet high, and a fireball goes off at your feet, seriously, where are you gonna go? Left? Nope, fireball goes there. Right? Nope, fireball goes there too. Back? Again, that fireball problem. Forward. Again, that fireball problem. Up? Same thing. Down? Same thing. Quite literally, the are you are in is completely filled by the fireball, so there really isn't anywhere to go.

When you have more room, it's not a big deal, even if you're standing in the middle of a massive arena and a fireball goes off. There's nothing to duck behind. There's nothing to dive into. There's technically no way to avoid the fireball, but you have room to get around, and that's all I require.

This is all circumstantial, so it's no wonder that there aren't any hard and fast rules to go by.

Gee, that really looks like you are saying no save in a 5-foot corridor. You seem to be saying there is no room to move around, so no save.

If that's not what you MEANT to say, perhaps you should go back and edit that post to make it more clear?

Kreynolds, I realize that you are probably feeling a bit defensive at this point.

May I suggest:

1. Try and be a bit nicer, no matter what anyone else does.
2. Let it go. Move on. Forget this topic. Don't respond any more.

If you ignore #2, could you at least try and set a new, kinder, gentler tone.

The part that you are missing, just like he did, is that the topic of this thread is about two people in the corridor, not one. I was sticking to the topic.

I did not miss that, nor did he. All of us frequently get a bit off-topic from time to time - it looked like that's what you did, if only slightly. In fact, it's really hard to read your post any other way.

"If you..."

Singular.

As opposed to something like:

"If they..."

Refering to more than one.

A thought -

If the standard of 'not enough room' is 2.5 feet - there are 4 2.5x2.5 foot areas in a 5 foot square. That would imply that you need 4 people in a 5 foot square to lose evasion/reflex saves. Of course, deciding that 2.5 feet is the threshold of overcrowding is an extrapolation from the DMG example that isn't necessarily correct.

In fact, the example is not just 2.5 feet, it's a 2.5 foot shaft.

I find it amusing that you tell me to forget this topic yet you continue to post in it. If it should be forgotten, why do you continue to add on to it? I'm fully willing to "let it go", but not so long as people continue to come in here and claim that I said something that I never did.

You have no idea. *shrug*

Actually, I do have an idea :) I've been there, and now I'm going to impart a few unsolicted words of wisdom, drawn from my own experiences:

1. Never respond to a post with a nasty tone, unless you do so in the most civil manner possible, totally ignoring the nastiness.

2. Stick to game issue, and never, ever bring in personalities (see #1 above for what to do if someone eklse does it).

3. If someone says you are stating something that you believe you are not, don't say "I didn't say that." Instead, ask why they think you said it, and take the opportuntiy to make your position clearer. Assume that you were not clear enough in your communication and try again.

4. Don't defend youself as if you were being personally attacked. Assume the best, and keep all debate civil. Trust the board moderators to monitor and stop uncivil dialog.

Trust me. These things work. It's how we keep a civil society.

Of course, the other option is to just yell, scream and fight with each other until one side finally quits from exhaustion.
