How many Scrolls can you Scribe in one day?

For that rudeness, lout, I think I'll turn you into a bat! Might teach you some manners to hang upside down for an hour or two.

... no, that's a recipe for hot fudge sauce. It'll have to be a goose - fat and ugly!

FWIW, my house rule is: we don't keep track of how many spells sit on a single piece of paper. For practical purposes, every scroll is distinct. You can write up to 1,000gp worth of scrolls per day. See, isn't that easy?

This applies also to Brew Potion. I see no reason that you can't brew up a jug of twenty cure light wounds potions in one day, else you would never make them at all.

I never liked that rule. It seems odd that you can write down 10 spells on a really long roll of parchment, but you can't write the same spells on 10 smaller rolls of parchment, or separate a long roll into individual spells.
You're assuming that there's nothing magically special about the paper. :)

I can mentally justify it either way -- and why not? It just means scrolls tend to be created in values equal or just below multiples of 1,000 gp. And that's moderately interesting.

Of course, there is the other restriction on scribing scrolls, as you have to dump the spells slot(s) or prepared spell(s) that you have into the scroll as you make it. (And every day that you continue to make it, in the case of scrolls over 1000gp in price.)

That alone makes it worth letting any number of scrolls being made per day. You can only do so much anyway.

Am I the only person who likes the restrictions that slow down the mass production of potions and scrolls? :( No one else is irked when someone says they should be able to slice up a multi spell scoll without ruining it?

I had someone that suggested slicing up a multiple-spell scroll which I nixed. When he asked why, I replied that a scroll is like a book. Take a page out of the book and neither bit is complete (try selling it for instance).

I'm personally neutral about mass production of scrolls and potions. I like the roadblock to stop flooding the market, but wonder why it is set up that way.

Yes. Actually, you should encourage it, because one-use items are a terrible investment and if you encourage them, PCs will end up a little less christmas-tree-like without you having to even touch the rules. This is even more true because (generally speaking, anyway - yours may act differently) PCs tend to hoard limited-use items until they're desperately needed, which generally results in at least half of them never getting used.

It wouldn't irk me, but I wouldn't allow it. Not that I see anyone at all on this thread suggesting such a thing, and it doesn't logically flow from the discussion...

You are not alone Frankthedm. Anything that makes magic feel more mundane goes against our play style. I know that it's hard to make magic feel rare and special in D&D, but it sure is fun trying! ;)
