How many times must a neutral character tell a crazy person to stop throwing trash and screaming at him or he'll "be forced to burn your face off"?

This happened to my character, and everyone was shocked and appalled when I burned the little old lady's face off.

It only happens when that neutral character becomes evil.

I guess I don't understand...

Neutral characters are not allowed to perform good or evil acts without automatically having their alignment changed match?

If the little old lady was a feral orc, or a polymorphed red dragon, would that matter?

acts of violence that kill nonthreatening beings is evil.

throw trash back at her. call her names. throw a hissy. restrain her until the guard comes.

but once you move to cause her harm enough to maim or kill her = evil.

They can do some good and some evil, this is big evil. And if the feral orc was just bothering you like in the situation described, it would not matter. What you did was charge a thousand dollars for a fifty cent crime, it was over kill and the evil.

The retalitation was not commensurate with the offense.

RE: Change of Alignment: Probably not - but I am hardly an alignment nazi

As for your question about what if she was, x, y, z and would it matter - the answer is "yes" - you can reasonably expect a true threat from a feral orc or a red dragon.

Another reason why alignment is a dated concept that should be removed from future editions. Play your character how you think they would react.

Note that alignment just means how your character acts OVERALL. A single evil act hardly justifies an alignment change. Neither does a single noble act.

I didn't think it was such a big evil.

I mean...I burn people's faces off all the time, many of which don't really pose a serious threat to myself or the party, but they are enemy combatants, so flame on!

If I burn off a bad guys face off, is that automatically a good act? If so, I have a whole bucket full of credits I can use to kill little old ladies without fear of being evil...I don't necessarily want to be a good guy, but I don't really want to be evil either.

I don't know if this lady is evil, she could be an assassin trying to give me a disease, or a spy trying to turn the town against me by inciting me to violence...she was leading a small mob. (Also the character is a human teenager, so that's where a lot of this comes from.)
