How much caffeine do you consume a day?

I was getting the headaches even with relatively moderate consumption (a single-shot mocha or 8oz coffee in the morning, black tea in the afternoon, maybe a soda here or there), so I quit recently. For a few days I was quite miserable to be around but now I feel a lot better. I still have hot chocolate and the occasional candy bar so I get some caffeine, but no more coffee, mochas, caffeinated soda, or black or green tea.

For me it just sucked if I didn't get my morning drink, I had a headache by afternoon.

I still see people at the deli counter at my office who order 24oz lattes with 4 shots of espresso, and just shake my head. That dose would probably cause my heart to explode. Let alone the cost (I figured at one point if I bought one mocha per workday until retirement, I'd give my office's coffee cart $10,000).

Well right now, I have two 16 oz cups aday durring the week, and three on the weekend. With some Iced tea from time to time.

I think at my height of consumption, I was about 2 to 3 pots a day. But then the coffee was free and right outside my office. Even then, I made a point to go cold turkey for a week every year or so. Never once had a problem. So even though my consumption was high, I never was physical addictided to it.

There was once, I went cold turkey for about 3 months. Not to mention going on a fairly strict vegitarian diet. Did not have any problems. Then when I was done with the diet, I had my first cup off coffee. Actauly, I think I had about two or three fairly quickly. (within about 90 minutes) and I got the jitteres. I had lost all tolerence.

So I can build up an imunity/tolerence to caffiene, but I don't suffer from withdrawl. But then rarely does coffee or caffine "wake me up." I drink coffee, because I like coffee.
