How much caffeine do you consume a day?

You americans are always worried about your caffeine, and I cannot begin to wonder why! Your coffee is soo weak that some swedes I know bring along instant coffee to add to the coffee they get in the US!

If I figure things correctly, translating to archaic measures, a normal day has me drinking 1 000 mg. (That's from coffee and tea only. I don't do sugared water thingies.)

The swedish average seems to be 400mg (80% of that from coffee).

Ah, Europeans and their blindly ignorant generalizations. Why, they seem to know almost as much about the USA as Merkins know about Europe!

About what I though, 500-600mg on a typical day off, and 1600-2000mg on a night at work. I've often said that without a gram of caffeine in me, I don't feel human.

Supposedly caffeine stimulates the same dopamine receptors that morphine and heroin do. Therefore the addiction is the same and the withdrawel is the same though obviously with a reduced effect. That said, I limit my intake to less than 300 mg a day and do not drink it after Noon. Too many problems going to sleep if I drink it later. Of course during gaming sessions all bets are off and I have been known to consume my weight in Mt Dew with a occasional beer to take off the edge :)

Full-blown addiction. 1500-2000mg/day for me I think. One full pot before work, roughly another pot while at work, and then a triple-shot latte or a couple cups of black tea after work is my usual pattern. Plus about a bar or two of chocolate a day. However, caffeine is actually starting to keep me awake at night every now and then, so I guess I should start cutting back...must be getting old. [sweeping generalization]and I have to agree that american coffee is weak (I drank about twice the amount that I do now when I was living in the states) [/sweeping generalization]

I usually grab a coffee at Dunkin on my way to work, then grab a cup when I get to work; free coffee being a "perk" of the lab I work at. I'll continue drinking coffee until somewhere between noon and 1:00, when I go to lunch. Sometimes I'll grab a cup around 3:30 or so, if I'm feeling a food coma coming on from a really big lunch.

Mm...coffee.

I avoid caffiene like the plague - I'd rather not have the manic high then the crashing low. My life is hard enough as it is.

Just say no!

I firmly believe that if you took caffiene tablets and ground them up into a white powder and then sold it on the street, people would find it no different than a certain other white powder...

That sure is! It must be playing merry hell with your sleep patterns. Remember, if you decide to scale back, do so gradually. Caffeine withdrawal headaches are dreadful.
