How much damage does a dead black dragon do

Okay, this isn't too hard to calculate. According to the SRD, actual weapon sizes (rather than size categories) are as follows: In general, a light weapon is an object two size categories smaller than the wielder, a one-handed weapon is an object one size category smaller than the wielder, and a two-handed weapon is an object of the same size category as the wielder.

Therefore, the medium black dragon corpse may be considered an improvised one-handed bludgeoning weapon for the large red dragon. I'd visualise it as equivalent to a flail, the red dragon wielding it by the tail, but probably the simplest equivalent is a club.

A large club deals 1d8 damage on a successful hit, and as an improvised thrown weapon, the black dragon has a range increment of 10 feet, giving it a maximum range of 50 feet.

Launching it from 450 feet, however, would definitely put it in the category of a falling object, and the dragon is doing itself no favours in aiming at a medium target from that range. It'll get close to terminal velocity over that distance, so launching force is irrelevant, and it will take almost a full round to drop that distance. I'd simply have the dragon roll an attack versus AC 5 to hit the right square, giving it a flat -20 to attack for the extreme range, and give the target a Reflex save to dodge, somewhere around DC 15.

hmm the red dragon got away in a severely battered state being chased by d3 summoned hippogriffs so maybe i can try again next time

IDHTBIFOM, but don't summoned creatures have to stay within short range (25 ft + 5 ft/2 levels) of the caster, or else they blip out? Wouldn't be much of a chase...

do they have to stay close? i know they must be summoned close.

dragon has higher speed than hippogriffs so they really kept it at bay rather than pursuing.

i will CTB

No, they do not need to stay within short range.

"The creature or object must appear within the spell’s range, but it does not have to remain within the range."
