How much does an authentic sports jersey cost in the US these days

First Post
I just acquired an extremely prized possesion, an authentic Manchester United soccer jersey with the name "Howard' (United's goalkeeper) and his number 14 on the back. The letters and numbers were actually ironed on in the shop.

I was a bit shocked to find the price came to about US$90. It's been a long time since I bought a product like this in the US (A friend of mine picked it up at a Premier League shop in Australia). Are authentic jerseys from an official shop that expensive?

Yeah that sounds about right* but that’s pretty close to what I paid for my Kansas City Royals jersey. :)

* I don't know a thing abut soccer and the cost of equipment.

Are their names really ironed on in the pros?

A FA Premier League jersey normally cost £49.99 (around $95), with additional price of £4.99 for each number and £0.99 for each letter ironed on it. Away team jerseys are usually £10 more expensive.

All-in-all you got a very good deal which is surprising since they are very strict on having the same prices in all countries. But I could see them make exceptions for countries that are 'developing markets'.

I don't even want to go into what my collection of Newcastle United jersey have set me back, and what they are worth. (I've got 17 jerseys, 4 autographed (one by Alan Shearer))

Actually, my friend said there was a sale going on or something.

Anyway, I'm really glad I got it.

Around 42 ....

I should mention that in the FAPL they change jerseys every other season, so I have 7 Alan Shearer jerseys, 4 home team and 3 away team ones (they the home and away team ones interchangably each year, so next year I'm getting myself a new away team jersey). Other jerseys of players that don't even play there or at all any more, eg Jon Dahl Tomasson and Frank Pingel (both danes and autographed).

EDIT: and btw John, since you have already gone half the mile you should take the full step and get the FAPL sleeve marks as well (an extra £1.99).

Wow, that's insane of them to change jerseys like that I think the Chiefs have had like 5 styles in 40 so years and I could easily be off. As I don't remember a change in my lifetime... Its very much tradition in the NFL though a lot of teams have changes recently.

The Royals have had probably as many jersey changes but I remember some of them... Thank god they’re not powder blue anymore. :D

Actually, those are pretty reasonably priced, compared to NBA, NFL and MLB authentics. I paid more than $200 for my Texas Rangers authentic, with name and number. And the names and numbers are sewn on, not ironed on.
