How much Jack could a Jack Chick Chick if a Jack Chick could Chick Jack? (Help!)

Late French RPG magazine, Casus Belli, made several attempts at about this. Including a rather simple initiation game, Simulacre, all that in a single supplementary issue magazine. The Simulacre system was universal, and could fit any genre. Played with two d6 and a great total of 11 scores, IIRC, it was very straightforward (and richer than expected for its simpleness).

You can look here at the webpage transcription of one of those CB "tracts" (actually one page in said magazine).

Of what do need I to begin part of play role?
Players
Apart from yourself, which will be probably the leader of play, envisage to invite from three to five friends. Say to them although you will play play of role, not with a kind of "Gendarmes and Robbers". They do not need to come disguised. If you want to entrust the role of the leader of play to one of your friends, give him the rules of the game at least a week in advance.
Rules of play
There are two numbers out of the ordinary of Casus Belli which present complete plays of role at a moderate price (49F) and that you can boil to get in the shops of plays specialized or by correspondence. Most recent of these out of the ordinary BASIC is named and present simple rules for standard universes, near to the rules of other very known plays (Chaosium system). Oldest names Simulacres and present more original rules, intended to simulate any universe of your choice. You thus do not need to buy other rules. Will know nevertheless that there are quantities of other plays of role, more or less expensive, more or less complicated and especially with extremely varied topics. The price of a play of role (which it appears as a box or a book) varies from 100 with 300F, with an average in the neighbourhoods of 200F.
A scenario
For your first part, it is perhaps presumptuous to want moreover to write one scenario. The majority of the plays of role have precisely a scenario included for this purpose after the rules. In BASIC or Shows , four are proposed to you. Then, for the plays of the trade, the scenarios are sold separately. A few years ago one found scenarios with the unit for a moderate price (of 40 with 80F). Today, one finds more and more collections from two to five sold scenarios a little expensive (between 90 and 180F).
Dice
As Shows , you will have only two normal dice (with 6 faces). For BASIC , you will also need two dice with ten faces (to obtain percentages). Other plays of role use dice with 4, 6, 8, 10, 12 or 20 faces. Most of the time you will have to get them separately to you (in addition to the purchase of the play). You inform before leaving the shop about the dice necessary to play play which you have just bought. Caution: one often uses the dice with 10 faces per pair of different color. To accelerate the rate/rhythm of the part, it is advised that each player has his own dice. Or that there is at least a complete "set" for the leader of play and for the players.
All types of dice:

Pencils, gums, sheets of paper
That seems obvious but there is nothing stupider than to lose half an hour to be sought in all the house paper and pencils before starting to play.
A screen of leader of play
It is a folding screen into three or four shutters, in a sufficiently rigid paperboard to hold once upright slightly folded. On the face side players there is an illustration (more or less pretty). On the face driving side of play the summaries of the principal rules are. The goal of this screen is above all to hide with the players the material of the leader of play (plans, scenario, figurines). One can manufacture oneself very well his screen by photocopying ends of rules in his play. In general the screen is not provided with the rules, it is sold separately (between 60 and 120F), often with a booklet additional of rules or a small scenario inside.
Shows contains a screen. And BASIC does not need any really.

Figurines
You can use about anything to represent the characters of the players. That they are pawns of Monopoly , sugars, ends of paperboard. But it is more pleasant to buy lead figurines especially conceived for this purpose. There are very many marks, in all the kinds. You near your shop inform.
A room, a table, chairs
That does not have the air of nothing but it should be known where you will play. The part is likely to last several hours and even if the play of role is a calm play, moments ago of excitation where the players raise the tone, shout, almost as if they attended a match of foot (finally, not at this point nevertheless!). Thus avoid having people who sleep in the part of at side.
Erasable Velléda and felts
Rather than a table with large paper sheets (as our pretty drawing shows it) or loose leves which you will crayonnerez, most practical is to have a rigid support in velléda (if possible squared but it is not essential) to draw the plans. The advantage of the velléda is to reduce the paper consumption, but also to be able to modify the plans progressively projection of the characters.
To photocopy virgin sheets of characters or to prepare prétirés characters
If your players want to create characters, it is necessary that you thought of photocopying sheets of character (there is in Simulacres ). Certain plays do not contain any at all, others sell them separately; it is always possible to note the characteristics of its character on a simple paper sheet. If the players are pressed, or initial, you can create a sampling of characters among whom they will be able to choose. Or, if the play proposes some, to entrust prétirés characters to them (there is for the scenarios of Shows and BASIC ).
Provisions
When one plays between three and five hours of at a stretch, often in evening, the practice shows that the players appreciate some drinks largely, of biscuits, even a sandwich or a small coffee.
That is the checklist there is complete! Illustrations: Eric Puech

Actual conversation, paraphrased because I don't recall the details:

Guy I played Rolemaster with: (plays RPGs)

Guy from his workplace or something: (slightly hushed) So, I, uh.. hear you guys play with those RPGs.. where can you do that around here?

GIPRW: Oh, just Saturday evenings at my house.

GFHWOS: Wow, really? And nobody's complained? Where do you get these?

GIPRW: There's a place at the mall that carries all kinds of stuff like that.

GFHWOS: (is stunned)

This guy was later quite disappointed to find out the first guy was actually talking about roleplaying games and not, in fact, rocket-propelled grenades. Yes, there's a chance I may live in a town full of rednecks. The quotes in the first post just reminded me of that. ;)

--Impeesa--

The stupidity of this man makes me want to curse.

Of COURSE you're talking about about destructive devices regulated by the ATF and not something perfectly mundane!

Send it my way, Berandor (the English version, please, I don't sprachen Deutsch, other than the occasional Nightcrawler quote... :D )

Claudio, can you do two versions for us -- one with the lingerie illos, and one without? :D

I like to cover my bases.
So the second would be like the first, just without the lingerie? :o

That is a fantastic way to put it. I'm doing it that way from now on, and with your permission (and credit), I'd like to borrow that idea for The Escapist.

I just wanted to say "Thanks" for the Spellcasting 101 article you did. That was almost lethally funny and points out very well the absurdities of the "D&D leads to Satanisim Crowd". You are one of my heroes for the sacrifices (and bird bites) involved in researching it.

Re: Lingerie Models with RPG - I'm fairly certain there are actually videos of this. Or at least of them firing RPGs. There was/is at least one video tape of models in Lingerie firing various full auto weapons. In high heels no less.
