How much TV do you watch?

All the threads in this forum about the various TV shows that sound really cool, makes me sad that I don't get to watch much TV. I don't lack interest in TV; I just don't have time.

I see maybe two hours of TV in a week. Maybe. At least one of those hours is just a combination of 10 minutes here, 10 minutes there, of some random stuff, like some news in the morning while I'm getting dressed. I sometimes manage to squeeze in a full hour show on a weekend. Usually on Saturday morning, on my bedroom TV while my sons watch cartoons on the living room TV. (1-2 hours on Saturday morning is the only TV my kids watch.)

How about you? Do you watch much TV?

There are a bunch of shows mentioned around here that I'd love to see.

I don´t own a TV anymore - I gave it away 2006, the commercials and all the crap, it isn´t worth it.
I watch some shows with a friend that has a home cinema; Dexter, Fringe and Supernatural, when they´re on air.
Sometimes I watch on my computer; The Walking Dead comes to mind.
Over a year it can´t be many hours.

I don't watch much TV on TV; mostly sports or miscellaneous programming while I'm working out.

I do, however, follow several shows on Hulu, and I have a boatload of TV on DVD. I'm not terribly busy right now so I''m watching a lot of DVDs I've had lying around for a while (Farscape, Burn Notice, maybe moving on to something else). Weekly committments are tough, but having stuff on demand is really convenient. Most of network TV is worthless but there's some good stuff floating around on cable.

In the DVR/DVD/Online world, I imagine the number of people watching TV as it airs is lower than it has been in decades and trending downward.

I don't much care for TV, generally speaking. I watch educational shows and a few others by recording them on my DVR and then watch them on the weekends if I'm not doing something more important. I also watch the news, but have to for work and business.

Right now I'm recording Daniel Boone (me and my kids watch that on Saturdays) and Battlestar Galactica (the new one), which I like better than the first time it aired.

The great thing about modern tech is that you can record whatever you like and watch it when you have nothing better to do. That allows me to filter out whatever I think is useless.

When I was a kid both of my brothers and my parents had TVs in their bedrooms in addition to the family TV in the den. 4 TVs for a family of five. I never understood that. We lived out in the country on a big estate (I eventually bought it from my father) and I spent most all of my time outside, playing with friends, riding bikes or motorcycle, swimming in the pool, tracking animals, reading, drawing, or exploring in the woods. They spent all of their time laying on the couch or bed watching TV. (To this day none of them exercise, and I mean not at all, and most are overweight and in bad health. TV didn't make em that way, but constant TV did.)

I guess this gave me a certain view of TV. That it is, generally speaking, I consider it a big waste of time and the least important thing I could be doing. Individually or with my family (and we have only one TV and that's all I'll allow in the house).

That said I will also say this, I think recent TV (Battlestar Galactica, Lost, Eureka) is better overall than at any other time I've seen it. And because of technological advances I can now easily sift through the crap (and there is a lot of it) to get to exactly what I want without wasting time with stuff of no value to me.

A quick search shows me that the Neilsen ratings folks think the average American watches more than 4 hours of TV a day - 28+ hours a week.

My wife and I, on most weeknights, will watch one, or sometimes two hours of programming. On weekends, we don't watch much at all, unless we declare it a "we've been too busy, and want to just sit and relax a bit" time. Our viewing is almost always "together" time, and neither of us watches TV alone with any frequency.

This watching includes broadcast (often time-shifted through TiVo), and viewing things we choose from Netflix or the like.

I'm guessing that is just watching broadcast TV, not including DVD's and the like. If so, I'm on the low side, with about 1-2 hours a day watching the news, and the very occasional network show, such as Castle. My viewing goes up when football season begins, as I'm a fan of NFL games, but no other sports.

However, if the question is how much TV do I watch including DVD's, I'm probably close to the average listed above. In fact, the majority of DVD's I now watch are TV shows, not movies. ST: DS9, Babylon 5, Stargate SG-1 and Atlantis, Smallville, Eureka, Bones, Chuck, Sanctuary, Leverage, Heartland - all on DVD, not broadcast.

I watch too much. I do record most shows to watch them faster and when it is more convient. I also watch a lot of shows on DVD. This summer I've gone through Batman the animated series (4 seasons), Superman the animated series (2 seasons), and I'm half way through 4400 (2 of 4 seasons). I do watch TV while I'm on the computer and prepping for games.

The only shows I've watched regularly for some time have been Wheel of Fortune and Jeopardy! Anything else, which is minimal, will be something I catch in passing that someone else is watching and get hooked on for an episode. I also watch stuff occassionaly on the computer.

Almost none. Very little TV interests me anymore, too much I enjoyed got prematurely canceled and I get more entertainment out of gaming. I occasionally watch something on Hulu here or there but I've just about lost interest in anything new.

In terms of tv, I usually keep the tv on in the background tuned to a 24 hour news channel like cnn, bbc, etc ... whenever I'm home.

Otherwise most of my viewing is watching dvds of television shows. Presently I'm making my way through the X-Files season dvds. Usually watch around two or three episodes per evening, after supper. On the weekends, I can watch as many as 10 to 12 episodes.
