How my undergarments slew the psion

A story and a warning from one who has seen the horrors of having too much protection…

In our weekly Forgotten Realms campaign, I play a high level elven mage who happens to be female. Although we are not graphic, we are all adult, and I decided to try to flesh out her personality, and tried to figure out how a wizard of a different time, place, race and gender would think. Now the character focuses on Abjuration, including wards, contingencies, etc. One of her tricks is to protect her and her equipment with a few strategic symbols. As you can set the triggering criteria for a symbol, and my DM lets me embroider them into cloth, it has worked rather well, keeping me safe from all sorts of thieves and assassins. Now, being female, she desired to protect herself from the most unprincipled brutes in the world, and happened to embroider a Symbol of Stunning into her undergarments.

Skip forward a few months. The party has just defeated a Great Wyrm, and it is exacting a long slow revenge from beyond the grave, as we try to penetrate her lair. There are dozens of magical, regenerating symbols, glyphs, and magical traps, and the party has split up. One of our comrades (the Druid) is at the bottom of the entrance pit to the dragon’s lair, which is hundreds (if not thousands) of feet deep. The rogue has disappeared too, and the mage (played by myself) is stranded at the top of the hole with the psion and the cleric. We’re desperate to aid our comrade, who we are sure is about to suffer some terrible fate. So, to rescue him, we decide to launch a daring plan…

Realizing that all the wards are magical, we figure that we can cast spells of flying on ourselves, and then cast an Anti-Magic Field about us. When we see the bottom, I dispel the the Anti-Magic Sphere, and we all hover safely above ground, below the various traps. A poorly devised plan, but we’re in a rush.

Unfortunately, we did not account for the prismatic wall that one of the magical traps had thrown in our way.

Upon seeing the wall of many colors in front of us, I quickly dismissed the field, and commenced hovering. The psion and the cleric, however, were not ready, and with an iron grip on my belt, tore my belt and my pants away from me, catching the garter on the way. Suddenly, a burst of magic is felt, and my two hapless comrades are stunned, unable to take any action that might save them before they hit the wall.

They were dead before the made it all the way through. The irony is that the druid was fine at the bottom. I made it down with little difficulty after bypassing the wall. The rogue was found, and was okay as well, however, the other two characters have the dubious distinction of being the only known PCs to ever be killed by another PCs underwear.

For a second there, I thought it was going to be how an enemy psion was strangled to death by your garter belt and you saved the party in this way.

Your tale is much better. :)
