How often to characters get a full attack in your campaign?

In my departed high level game, only the archer routinely got full rounds of attacks. This made up for his lower damage and lack of something like power attack. Competent foes would move away from a raging 18th level barbarian and take the AoO rather than face five attacks the next round. But actually, the melee dudes were often neutralized first because five attacks is quite dangerous.

I actually didn't use the partial action in surprise round rule and allowed full actions. This only helped the archer, because no combat starts with the melee people within five feet of one another, and spellcasters can cast in a partial action anyway. It did help the melee people charge a bit further.

Five attacks?

RAW here.

OP kind of implies that it slows down the game, but I don't find that true

Oh, I do. Though this has more to do with player math ability and fastidiousness at keeping track of your rolls and modifiers than any sort of rules interpretation sort of thing.

At our current level? Whenever they want!

I believe that every single (melee-interested) character in our party can unleash a FA by using either a Belt of Battle or by using a "lion's pounce" type thing. One (or two?) of us can unleash two FAs (in a single round) if they really need to.

But since he was referring to a melee barbarian my guess would be haste. A staple of any high-level party.

We go RAW on full attacks - it takes a full-round action, so barring some special ability you can only take a 5' step during the same round.
Indeed. Works pretty well at the UGT as well.

RAW. 3.0 RAW, even, so it's rare that people don't get to make full attacks, at least if they stay within Mass Haste radius of the mage and are willing to delay action. The die-hard melees have their own haste items to get them through dispel magic and those times the mage is nerfed.

We typically play that way as well - you only get full attacks if you don't move or take - at most - a 5' step.

BTW, what does RAW stand for?
