It was my understanding that a new class was being published sometime in July. The rumor mill seems to believe it will be the bard, or so was the impression I had gotten from reading various threads here. We know the sword mage will be coming in the FR campaign setting. I am really hoping it gets published elsewhere as I don't play FR, don't want to play it, and really don't want to buy it to get access to one class.

It should be available in the online Rules Compendium if you subscribe to DnDI.. As for print I don't know, though I think it unlikely..

I would like them sooner. I figure we'll get two or three of the most popular requests as Dragon articles waay before the PHB2 comes out. But there's a good chance that if I wind up running 4E before a year or two from now, I'll want extra classes way before PHB2.

You'll get them sooner. As i understand it the ddi subsribers will also serve as playtesters.

I don't want a ton of new classes, so I can certainly wait a year or longer for more. What bugs me though is not having a bard and druid now.
I don't really feel the need for new classes now either. I already have more cool character ideas than I could possibly play. That said, I do want the bard, druid, and swordmage ASAP, to convert old characters.

What I want more than anything else now are more paragon paths, more epic destinies, and more powers and options for the existing classes, especially wizards. I expect that the FR Player's Guide and Martial Power will satisfy me until PHII comes out.

I want Monk, Druid and Bard as quickly as possible. I feel they screwed us over by giving us Warlock and Warlord as new classes, when I feel they should have given us all of the 3.0 PHB classes instead, for easier convertion.

I just think there are too many problems in the way of designing a martial controller....I think they're going to have to add something other than martial prowess to character to justify giving it sufficient controller powers to actually call it an Official Controller, rather than a dabbler.
{emphasis added}

One of the genres I try to play is "low magic". The lack of a Martial character to fill the Controller role is a serious hindrance to playing a low magic game (for example an all martial game).
